Hi all,

Having returned from a spot of touring in France beer.gif , where the weather was rather warm grin.gif , has anyone got any tips, advice on how to clean my Helmet (and I don't mean polishing it!) lbhh.gif

Oh, so many jokes, so little time.

I mean the inside padded bit as opposed to the shiny hard bit that gets flies all over it ... (here we go again)

Here's hoping someone can come back with a semi-sensible answer fcrossed.gif

TC, that doesn't apply if all the liner is detachable right?

If I want to clean the inside of the helmet and all the linning is detachable i can take it out, and clean....is there any products to clean, or soapy water is enough?

Baby shampoo's best (and cheapish as well)

rule 1, get a spare helmet lbhh.gif

I use baby wipes, usually when I have a day to let it air after, give the interior (and exterior) a good scrub with them and you can literally see the muck on the wipe.

I remove the cheek pads once a month and rinse them with a mild hand soap. But my early helmets didn't have this luxury and the baby wipe treatment kept them clean and fresh.

Washing your helmet...... eyebrow.gif

well that was what I thought I did when I went for a ride when it is raining..... grin.gif

For a better wash wait until it has rained for a while , the roads are clean and go for a fast ride,,,, and .... presto,,,, washed Helmet........ laughcont.gif laughcont.gif

Now on a more serious note,,,,,, You got some sound advise from previous post.....

I personally just use washing up liquid. Simply make a bit of kitchen roll damp and add some washing up liquid and squeeze slightly to help mix it. Then wipe in all over. Now use another damp bit of kitchen roll, just water this time and wipe (don't worry if there is still some bubbles left). Finally dry with kitchen roll.

It is best to clean as soon as you get back from a ride. When dead flies have been left a while they need more elbow-grease to remove.

The washing up liquid cleans up the visor a treat and prevents some fogging up. I do the same thing to clean my glasses which I need for riding.

Oops... My thought for not reading it properly. Sorry... blush21.gif

My lining doesn't come out so I guess I would still use washing up liquid as this is good for removing dirt and greese. I would avoid soaking it as this would flatten the padding, I would try and surface clean it as much as possble.

I cleaned my lid a few days after Squires, although the cheekpieces come off, the bulk of it is glued in solid.

I poured a load of very warm (but not hot) water into my lid, added a dash of Daz liquid (the smelly stuff) and scrubbed with my hand like there was no tomorrow.

You should have seen the colour of the water than came out once I had finished sick.gif

My lid now smells summer fresh grin.gif

I have to admit I have never had a lid long enough to start fermenting or I have long since lost my sense of smell. I have had the current one about 3 years.

I just have images of bikers all over the world now having a sniff (new lid or clean?).... wwww.gif

It's also worth mentioning that if you need to speed dry it, place the helmet between two kitchen chairs (or something similar which allows air to flow through the bottom), then open the visor and point a desk fan in the front of it.

(Or if you have a de-humidifier, even better)

Hehe, wonder what lbhh.gif the old brylcream cafe racers used to clean their helmets with?
