Hi lightyears hello.gif I don't know the first thing about scooters but someone who does may be along soon.
Have you looked on any scootering forums to see who they use?

does anyone have any links for scootering forums as this subject or any motorcycle ones seems to be very thin on the ground, cheers so far though!

Use the search feature on this forum, there have been some posts about scooters before.
I've got a feeling shebee has a scooter, she may be able to help.

Hi lightyears i've not much of an idea about scooters either, try bennets, carol nash or bikesure for insurance alternatively google motorcycle insurance and pick one i'm sure most of the bike insurers will cover scoots too....HTH

Is that the Piaggio Vespa? they do have a good reputation, and I'm quite sure that Carole Nash or Bennetts will give you a quote as they cover all powered two wheelers.
I had a 125 yamaha Majesty and absolutely loved it - a very practical machine for to and fro-ing for work. Currently I have an Italjet Dragster 180 - but mine is in bits after a meeting with some diesel and the rear end of a mondeo blush21.gif

That is the piaggio vespa, brand new one. a"disc" model, it has a front brake disc i assume lol. what sort of fuel economy do you get on a 125 type scooter, i heard its pretty good
Anth
A good place for reviews from "normal" (Not newspaper types )is www.ukbike.com

Not connected with this place but it's ot reviews of almost every two- wheeler going (or not in some cases).

Alright lightyears,

try this one. http://www.elms-sc.co.uk/

I had a couple of work mates with vepas years ago and we used to swap bikes to see what they were like. I didn't like them too much because I didn't find them as stable as the bike and I couldn't get used to the hand gear change. blush21.gif The scooter scene is pretty active though, so there should be plenty of people out ther ewho can help you.

Good luck.. beer.gif

Disc brake is good smile1.gif I reckon I was getting about 15 miles to the litre on the Yam (4stroke) but can't recall exactly, rather less on the 2smoke Dragster - but it has had a bit of a power boost in it's history.
The yam would achieve and maintain 70 (which is a laugh when everything else on the dual cabbageways is not ooh2.gif ) and up to an indicated 85 in the right conditions (downhill with a following wind lbhh.gif ) Some of the better things about 'em is their accelleration and narrow profile - you can disappear from the lights before the idiot in the car has moved a yard and nip between lines of traffic(eyes open and everywhere!) and to the front of the queue.
Roundabouts and tight bends are helped by trailing the rear brake and sticking your knee out (yes I know it sounds daft but it shifts the weight enough to lean the bike quicker - where on a geared bike you would put more weight on the pegs)
I would get some good locks and chains and Datatag it if you are parking in towns/city as they are a bit light and attractive to the scumbag classes.
