I just got home with my spany new bike.
Its my first big bike after being on a Kawa gz125 for 3 years, off for 1 year (casually riding my brothers cbr600f)
Its a bootiful red and silver '96 GPZ500s Bought for the princely sum of ... £600!. Got 16k miles and is, well, see for yourselves:

Only minor fault, a hole in the downpipe! so it sounds somewhat harlyish right now, rides like a dream though and is (almost) immaculatly clean, just the usual couple pf scuffs you would expect on an 8 year old bike.
Picked up a new set of downpipes/gaskets from a kawa dealer on the way home, they had them in stock all boxed up!, bit of blinding luck there so tomorrow ill have the fairing off, the fuel tank off the radiator off (cause im assuming i will need to get all of these off to switch the downpipes) and by the end of the day have a shiny new !!black!! pair of downpipes on the bike,
Wish me luck with my strippin! any tips would be greatfully noted!

indeed, got a new tax disk on it too, mot till end of august. I will check it all over tomorrow while i am sorting out the downpipes, but from riding it, it looks like it will walk an mot, brakes are good, pads are all good, tyres are all good, it idles well, starts first time with no choke, Engine sounds good, oil is good.
couple of minor jobs like tightening the clutch cable but nothing serious, will post better pics in the gallery when i have cleaned it up and reassembled tomorrow

Looks good. My mate had one and thought it was great. He got it as his first big bike and fell off it a couple of months later. When he did trade it, he bought a R6, which is still pristine. So he must have learned something on the gpz.

OK, I have spent like 6 hours working on the bike today.
Thus far i have pryed off the old nuts, wrenched off the cans and got the downpipes off the beast. Man they were a bit rotton, where the pipes link together at the bottom had basicallly rotted through. While i was down their i checked it all out, it is dirtly but generally not too corroded (nothing that a bit of wd40 wont get off) I then changed the gaskets and downpipes (so it sounds alot less like a HD now, though is still a little noisy - will work that out) I then adjusted the clutch and set up the levers to my taste and had a good go lubricating the moving bits center and side stand now return to resting place when flicked up) sorted out all the keyholes then gave it a bit of a clean.
I went to ajust the mirrors and one snapped off at the ball, bugger! must have got damaged in the van. Off too ebay to find a new right wingmirror.
I then went for a ride to test out all my work.. and MAN this thing is nice, its smooth and pulls nice at low revs, and you hit 7000 and it takes off! its no cbr600 but, I actually prefer it, its got more grunt low down and its not so 'off and on'
Jobs I have left:
take off, check over and ajust preload on rear shock, if needs be rebuild/replace, it feels ... okay but im not happy with it as it is Front forks are fine
Replace wing mirror
resecure front fender as it seems loose
Clean wheels
anything else i find when i start the next lot
