I obtained a set of Oxford hot hands, they are heated covers which velcro over your grips, they do work but they definately are not very durable, they are supposed to have a silicon grippy inside surface to stop them slipping round the normal grips.

I got them last March but the weather warmed up so I did not use them until mid November. I've done about 1500 miles and the right hand one has packed up. The connections are too flimsy and rot in no time if there is the slightest hint of salt around. I had to keep cleaning the connectors with WD40. The main problem with them is that the throttle side overgrip keeps creeping to the bar weight and the slight gap between the grip and the bar weight causes the heating element to break up when you operate the throttle.

I have decided to go back to using proper heated grips (which are actually cheaper). cry.gif

Most of our instructor bikes are fitted with Motrax heated grips
& whilst basic, work very well. We get them for around £30-but Joe public may pay a wee bit more-If you do decide to fit them to your own bike-make sure you wire them to a live that is on only when the ignition is on-saves a lot of embarrasment & flat batteries.
As I'm a hard/daft Northern type I dont have them on my own bikes. They dont seem right on a cruiser somehow. The ZZR is safely away until the weather gets better-so no need.

Motrax grips don't fit my bike as it has 1 inch dia bars, I have located some dual heat grips for it via Hi-Level, they should be here by the end of this week, I know what you mean about wiring the grips in as my Pacific Coast had some fitted by Colin Appleyard motorcycles, the buggers were too busy to find a suitable wire so the daft buggers wired them straight o the battery!!

It may not be right to have heated grips on a cruiser but I prefer warm hands

No, but the wife keeps trying to get me to sit in an electric chair...

I've heard good things about the heated clothing. The comments are usually from hardened winter veterans. As TC has said before, if you start to get cold, you start to lose concentration.

They've got to be worth considering, if you do a lot of winter riding. buttrock.gif

laughcont.gif Less current....thank you!! Theres a shop here that I'm friendly with the owner who sells the basic, made in Canada one. No heat control, just plug in and out and no sleeves. Still does the trick and they're around $100 Canadian. He's shipped a couple to some friends in the UK and they were pleased with them.

If anyone is interested I can get you details on it re shipping price etc. If I ever figure out how to post pics I could take digi of mine to show it.

I had mine on Saturday, was about 12C and had to unplug it as it was getting too hot cool2.gif

Kinda, maybe ish on the same thought...

My lady bought me some Oxford hot grips, and there great! How did i makeit through the last 4 winters without them?

Ok so a bit of *&^%ing arround to fitt them, file here, cut there. but I don't think i'll ever have a bike without them again, (God I must be getting old! {25})

According to my lovey lady, there are 2 type's, not sure if thats sizes or hard or soft grips, but might be wortha look.

Well I'm a toasty convert devil1.gif

How bizzare, I got myself a pair of HH this Saturday!

They are slightly fiddly to fit tightly (esp. the throttle grip as the darned thing tries to rotate when you're attaching it), but got them on good 'n' tight in the end and they don't budge about at all on the grips.

There's a fair length of cable between the switch and HHs, but that's all tidied up and cable-tied to the centre of the handlebars, underneath the handle bar top clamp, to there's not too much mess.

As it's a faired bike, I'm not that worried about salt etc. getting into the conectors as they're protected.

They do get HOT though, not just warm. I found myself having to turn them on & off as I was going along.

They make an incredible difference though - I reckon this morning was the coldest thus far in Wiltshire this Winter and my hands were nice 'n' toasty when I got to work - the tips of my fingers were a little cold still though.

You can get them online (e.g. eBay) for £25. I went to Hein Gerrick in Brissol on Saturday and paid a whopping £50 for them! I made the decision to shell-out the additional wonga on the basis that my hands being warm when I'm riding is worth infinitely more than £25, no matter how broke I am.

HOT is the word, had to reposition the switch on the handlebars so I could turn them off easier, they can make you feel that your bars are downpipes!

I got some heated grips from the motorbike show (Oxford heated grips - £30) and put them on last weekend. They are great, but do get very hot. I am thinking about getting some muffs as well as my finger tips still get cold.

Also I am looking at getting some heated socks. lol Any tried them?
