Yeah right, like I'm going to do that with the FJR mad1.gif
ZOMB!E
DO THAT ALL THE TIME AT WORK - THE ONLY BIKES I HAVENT BEEN ABLE TO DO IT WITH ARE THE LARDY HARLEYS AND GOLDWINGS BUT R1'S ALWAYS WORRY ME COZ THE SIDESTAND IS LIKE A CHOPSTICK!
ancientd
I thought thats what the side starnd is for, certainly wouldn't want to leave a bike parked on one for a long time.

Its a windows media file, try installing that or update it maybe ?
snapdragon
I reckon you must be strong enough to lift/pull quarter to half the weight of the bike? no chance sniffle.gif
ZOMB!E
Snappie, wouldnt worry cos its down to old mateys law of levers, no where near as heavy as youd imagine. If its still too much you can get n front and spin it using the bars, no weight aLmost at all. ill maybe do a photo thingy to show how thats done but its dead easy especially usefull when parking on high street spots where you have to back the bike in.

Oh and r1's stands are deffinetly like chopsitcks!
PorTiuS
It does work, and doens't damage or stress the Side stand, as long as you don't pull the bike towards you too much.

However...I do remember reading an article about the fact Ducati's side stands simply fall off after a few spin... fcrossed.gif
Madkaz
Nah, link wont work for me either....

The media box comes up, but wont play.
and i have a feeling this might be something I REALLY need to see........ If it's a way of turning the bike on it's sidestand, it may help to solve my "bike not getting into shed" problem..............
ancientd
It's a very useful way to turn your bike around in its own length, I use it all the time on my FZR1000 as the bike is heavy and does not have a very good turning circle. Simply put the bike on its side stand, stand by the bike near the side stand, grip the nearest handlebar and passenger grab rail, if fitted. Gently tip the bike towards you slightly, it takes a lot less force than you would think, and balance it against your body then just spin the bike round the stand.
Ian
Kaz, have you tried right clicking on the link and 'save target as' If you have windows media player it should work.

Tried saving the page address and then opening it up in WMP, but alas; no joy. sniffle.gif

This way seems weird to me but I guess it works for you and your bike !!!

Gimme ur email addy and I will send it to you (its only about 620Kb).

The way that I would describe doing it is (I guess this varies from bike to bike !)......

- put bike on side stand
- stand to the left of bike and grab both handle grips
- turn steering to the right with front brake on
- pull the bike diagonally forward and right so that the back wheel comes of the ground (this is as much as you need to do if you wanna get ur mate to lube ur chain smile1.gif).
- pull the front of the bike now towards you so that the fron wheel comes of the ground and all the weight of the bike is only on the stand
- spin the bike but do it slowly the trick is to keep the bike balanced in the same position all the time, I spin mine anti clock wise (my freind spins clockwise and it looks well uncomfortable !)

I hope this helps !!

Please try it slowly or you will end up shouting for a neighbour to come out and pick ur bike up of u lol !!!

Phew, that guy made it look easy, not sure I'd like to try it. Maybe on my driveway when Ive got someone with me incase I mess it up and drop it. lbhh.gif blush21.gif
[JP]
I've seen ancient doing that...seemed easy...

but i'm not going to try...i reckon i would drop the bike....
NWBikers
seen another movie like that last year, from bike pics but that was a hyabusa.

i do that all the time to spin me bike round in the building yard becasue there is only one way in and out and you cant swing a cat! im sure it has nothing to do with the weight of the bike its the balance!
MIKEYMC
I'd still be worried about breaking or bending the stand. I mean you do it enough it cant be good:D
ancientd
Why? the stand is specifically designed to take the weight of the bike which is exactly what it does when you spin the bike on it. All it takes is a little technique and practice, it's very easy and quick when you get the knack.
MIKEYMC
Well when I really need to spin the bike then I'l try it. Keep as a backup technique in my arsinal grin.gif
