There's been quite a lot of talk lately about good dealers, bad dealers, decent parts shops and crap ones, so i thought i'd put up a thread where you can sing their praises or warn folks off.
Let's keep it civil please with no silly name calling or slagging off.
Allow me to start the ball rolling with some praise..

Theres not many good ones round here unless you know the staff.
I'm a bit nervous of this folks mentioning these things in a pub or at a rally is fair enough.
but putting it on a public forum would be seen as liable would'nt it?
if not i've a list as long as me arm of dodgey dealers round here.

BIKE GEAR - BRIDGEND - SOUTH WALES
Superb choice and service, with small business mentality - Like every customer is truly valued.
When I went there after being treated like a time waster by some stores - who looked at me with that "oh here's another biker chick wannabe" look,
They were so welcoming, let me try almost everything on and kept the coffee coming........ it was a great experience.
Now I have a bike, and I go there for everything.
When you think how much I initially spent out on leathers, waterproofs, gloves helmet, accessories.........etc, you can see how it pays to treat everyone as a potential customer.

So long as you're psosting your personal opinion and not direct accusations of wrong doing then i dont see a problem mate, For instance if i say I thought
'whatever' motorcycles were crap then thats an opinion i cant be sued for - if i said a
'whatever' motorcycles ripped people off, charged for parts that were never fitted , did unneccessary work or sold write offs without mentioning it etc then i might be legally challenged to prove it. But if you think you can prove it then cool, go for it!

nope, they don't normally test ride them, and certainly at fowlers they ddn't have the time to test them - only 15min was put asside for mot's! They should just check the bike over from the checklist!

actually you are quite entitled to take a bike for a test ride if you feel there is sufficient need. sometimes just riding it fromthe car park to the test bay is enough to note a serious problem...

Fame this time...
Just had my bike serviced by George Whites in Swindon.
Told me it would cost £135 when I booked it in. When I took it in I also pointed out that the heated grips (that they fitted) had stopped working, and the left grip was loose.
When I picked it up they told me they had been unable to get an air filter so had cleaned up the old one as best they could, and hadnt charged for it. Re-stuck the grip. Earth lead had broken for the heated grips, so had put some extra length in. Rear brake pads were worn very low so they said they "took the liberty" of replacing them, which was easy as they "had the calipers off anyway".
Total bill including brake pads: £123.

One for the "hall of shame"
P&D Honda in Outwood, Wakefield.
WebsiteI paid £170 for what was supposed to be a full service. After re-doing the service 1000 miles later with help from a friend of the bandit owners club we found the following:
1. Brake pads were nearly through to backings.
2. The brakes had supposedly been bled yet today were full of air when we did them.
3. The air filter was in a right state and should have been changed, they hadn't even cleaned it, so probably not even checked it.
4. Striped the thread on one of the cam caps.
5. Clutch and choke cables not been touched, very stiff.
There was more but that's all I can remember.
Alot of this would have gone un-noticed with me having little experience, alot was noticed by my friend helping (well doing most of it!)
He has done all his own servicing and lots for others for 20 years and he said it looked like they had done bugger all. So it's all negative from me. Dan.

if you love ur bike plz plz plz dont take it to speedwell motorcycles. as ooga had stated in an eariler past they really dont have a clue. im willing 2 slag them off or do anything to discourage people from havin their pride and joy distroyed by these cowboys. im now bannd from thier b~*ls@/t shop and never have any plans to return. wen i ride past i stopped outside and shout to the customers 'ur brave lettin those dicks touch ur bike'
k guess u guys need an explantation now lol
when i first got my gs1000 she had a few teething problems old worn parts and needed lots of tlc. unfortunatley the muppets at speedwell motorcycles was the nearest repair garage lol repair. my bike wudnt start she needed a new start clutch a new head gasket and an mot.
after 7 wks my bike was ready for collection so all excited i go to the shop hand over £454 and rode away proud as punch. an hour later as i was leavin my m8s house......it wudnt start. same problem. i phone the shop who then told me i had a flat battery...altho they had apparently put a new battery in for the mot. then the mechanic tried 2 bullsh!t me more cuz im a women and told me i had a discharge so angry i return to the shop monday morning. i got told they cudnt do anything this week because they were movin shop and didnt have the time to fix it so bring it back next week. the week after i took it bk still tryin to bump start it. i was 8.5 stome tryin to bump start a 1980 gs1000e...not fun!!!! but this time wen i got it goin it started throwin oil at me from the cyclinder. once again took it back but again they were too busy because they had just moved shop i was so angry i exploded they barred me from the shop and i never got my money back
so then tim morphus as mentioned by ooga and dandit dan done a fantastic job of fixin their cock ups. tim had to fit a new head gasket as speedwell has ballsed it up a new base gasket as they managed to cock that up too...and the head needed machining as theyd also managed to break that plus i needed a new start clutch. so end price of summat that should have cost me a few hundred pound infact cost well over a thousand quid. and now where speedwell had took my start motor apart to clean it as they thought that was the startin problem even tho i had told em wot it was the start motor now has jammed weve tried takin it apart cleaning it and all the rest but they f##ked that up as well
moral of the story.......................
plz plz plz plz plz plz plz DONT USE SPEEDWELL MOTORCYCLES OR BRISTOL EVER!!!!!!!!!!

I got fleeced by them about a year ago too
My bike had been off the road for a while and needed a MOT. They were the nearest to where I worked at the time, so took it in for a service and MOT.
I wish I hadn't bothered. £90 and it ended up costing me an extra £60 elsewhere. The only thing a got out of it was an MOT certificate.
They didn't do anything with the bike apart from patching up an inner tube which they charged me for a new one. Don't think they changed the oil because it was still black and totally messed up my speedometer.
Took mine to CMR just off Portland square in Bristol. I've only been in there four times in the last four years, but Dave knows exactly who I am when I walk in, what bike I've got and what work has been done on it.

I would like to raise a glass to Treen Motors of Crediton, Devon. My clutch went on the way to work and after figuring that it was'nt the cable I feared the worst. I called them and they had it picked up and fixed by lunchtime for £50.00 as it only needed a clip welded back on. They could have charged me for a new clutch and I would have been none the wiser so...HOORAY for honest garages!!

I would like to ad Art Deans of Swindon, I bought my GS125 from them last year, It lost power a month after I bought it. I took it back they did something to it, it was fine for a week or so but then the problem arose again, so I took it back again for the same problem a different diagnosis a hole in the carb diaphram. It took them 2 weeks to fix it. I phoned them on the thursday of the second week to tell them I was coming to pick it up they told me I could not have it because it was having carboration problems. Anyway I picked it up on the Friday and it was sorted, but 2 weeks for a diaphram, I phoned george whites and they could get me one next day. This latter incident was in January. Now I am having carb problems again (unrelated) I took the carb off to adjust the fuel mix and guess what the mix screw is rounded off. Aaaarrrrrgh. It wasnt before because I had to adjust the mix back in november.

I have praise for three places, Newcombe Bro's in Chelmsford, after my accident, i took the bike to John Pease also in Chelmsford who said they'd look at her the next day, 1 month on im still waiting to hear so i phoned them again and told them i was collecting her (it was hard work pushing her up hill with bent n twisted forks) I got home and called Newcomes who, picked her up the next dat for free as they "were in the area" in the same day they had assessed the damage and ordered the parts! top geezers!
The second is Hadlers in Chelmsford, again very helpful, fixed her breaks after they had seized in days, and replaced the headlight after she was stolen, and a couple of times ive needed replacement instrament display bulb, but ive not had enough cash, so they let me pop it in the next day! top people, Chris there also recognises me in town minus leathers! hows that for customer focused?
The last one is MOT a bike (Brian Nunn) coz im biased! n e more details for that one ask EB

I'd recommend CJ Ball of Hales in Norfolk. They have a hell of a reputation in the area, and even though they have ditched Honda for a Suzuki agency, they always have a crowd just chatting and drinking the coffee. Loads of bikers have a run out there on Sunday morning for no reason at all other than to meet up and chat. Friendly lot.
On the other hand Lings in Lowestoft have just opened a mega-expensive boutique of a Honda showroom with polished floors and clever lighting - just what your average biker wants? But the atmosphere is as cold as the image, and the prices no doubt reflect the need to pay for the showroom.
