Full Version: Paddock Stands...

OK! I bought a paddock stand (Bandit doesn't have a centre stand you know) and got it home... spent 10 minutes trying to lever the bloody bike up onto it (not as simple as it sounds when the bikes leaning over on it's side stand) and then thought... bugger... I assume you jack it up here!!!

Where do they fit? Have I done it wrong? Sort of "swingy arm" thing that the back wheels attached to is where I've gone for, just in front of the bolts that (seem to!) hold the round thing on the back there... would that be right or have I made a right muppet of it again blush21.gif

And how the bloody hell do you get it up there and back down again simply? How long can it there, arris in the air then? Research? Not a lot... but I can type!

you're putting the pads in the rightish sort of place by the sounds of it mate.  the instructions that come with paddock stands usually say it is a two man job and if you're having problems then maybe you should get someone to help until you're confident with it.  What i do is to slip it into position with the bike on the side stand and then grab the back end of the bike with my left hand whilst holding the paddock stand in my right.  I then put some pressure on the paddock stand while easing the bike to upright.  Once it's upright I press down with my right hand and the bike just lifts and sits there no bother at all.  this is the first time I have ever had a paddock stand and it seemed fairly easy to use which surprised me but to be honest i have become quite strong in the upper body since i lost my leg and have developed a blinding sense of balance so maybe that has helped!

try it with someone holding the front of the bike until you're happy with the whole business before trying it on your own.  It would be a right pisser to bust up the bike or maybe even hurt yourself.  Let us know how you get on.

I have the same problem with the RF - no bloody centre stand  :verysad:  sniffle.gif

I was worried about it toppling over using a paddock stand alone, so I plumped for the ABBA stand. Pricey at about Łton, but easy one man op and as steady as a very steady thing taking it steady

I like that mate.  that looks brilliant.  i aint seen one of those, where do you get it?  The paddaock stand trick is okay but i do sheet myself until it's finally up and stable (eh?) and that device looks easier no end.  Where does it pick up it's mounts and do they make them for specific models and where dya get it?

And pm me your postal address.

Here's a few more pics mate........

It comes in two parts and fits onto the swinging arm pivots. Slide the big 'L' shaped bit under the bike from the lhs until the doobrie is in the s/arm pivot hole

Lean over the bike and slide the smaller bit onto the big 'L' shaped bit. There's a little wing nut on the bottom bar that you nip up. Then screw the adjuster in until it meets the other end of the s/arm pivot. I taped it up then as it's now set for the bike.

Then just pull the handle up out of the lhs piece and rock the bike forward. Job's a good 'un  cool2.gif One mad op and dead easy, you'd piss it no problem (no offence obv)

I got mine from M & P a few years back. They're all pretty much the same, you just get an individual adapter for the relevant bike so you can use it if you change bikes.

Only problem is you can't get the s/arm out. I jack up under the sump for front wheel removal, and I stuck some boxes under the sump so I could remove the stand when i did the s'arm bearings. Bit tricky but managable. PM on the way

I think paddock stands are a waste of money. I'd just as soon study form in writing and take a good seat in the grandstand instead.

Hilts... thanks mate, you're a great fecking help!

Yeah, well I bought it from a chap second hand you see... and he must have been 6'4" and gone about 170 odd lbs... and he said "Yeah, it's easy, just lever the bike up with it".

Yeah, right!   I nearly had a bloody hernia trying to keep the bike upright with me teeth thinking "if this goes over it's gonna break something... and knock down some bloody book shelves"!

I like the look of that thing FF... maybe when I've sold a few more stamps I shall upgrade!

Zee, if I may I'll pop it up there and take a photo of where the widgets are sitting... could you then tell me if that's the right place chap?
Hilts
Ok Blandy - can you not hold the bike under the seat and by the bars (i.e. both hands), and then press down on the back of the paddock stand with yer foot - thereby levering the bike up and aboard the stand?

Were you trained to use a centre stand after CBT? If not you should have been. Push down with foot while steadying the bike with your hands - don't pull the bike up, let the stand lever it.

Is that not how they work?

No?

You bought the wrong one then.

Possibly... you'd need the legs of a giraffe and the arms of a gorilla to be able to both "pretent to put it on the centre stand" and press the stand down mate... I've resorted to gripping the rear tyre with me teeth wwww.gif
ZOMB!E
This is how i do it.

Put the bike on the side stand and psoition the pads in front of the rear spindle.
ZOMB!E
..
ZOMB!E
Then holding the rear of the bike - I use the rack but you could easilly use the grab rail - ease the bike upright whilst putting a bit of pressure on the paddock stand to keep the pads located.
ZOMB!E
Best to have a spotter for this!
ZOMB!E
Then when the bike is upright and the stand wheels are down, press the handle down and up the bike goes.
ZOMB!E
And thats it really. Practise with someone holding the front of the bike until you're happy with the whole business.  It is a bit like the centre stand polava though in that if you're bursting bloodvessels in your head then you must be doing it wrong!

and remember..... removal is the reverse of the fitting....

or is that the other way round?
