Just had my 2nd test this morning and passed with three minors.. the radio kept malfunctioning for around the first 20mins so I was thinking "Oh god this isn't going to be my day again".. but the guy said I rode well..

Can't believe I've finally done it.. grin.gif

Thanks people smile1.gif

Looking back - the radio thing was quite funny.. only thing was I never heard the directions.. it was like "at the next... [roundabout/junction/14 year old mother of 2 pushing a pram]......take the [1,2,3,4,etc]...exit..[direction].." haha..

Also the postman's just been and I've received confirmation that I am being fully reimbursed for the test that I had cancelled about a month ago.. double bonus!
drbandit
Well done Sodom. I'm glad you stuck in there. Now, how do you fancy a 600 Bandit? Ideal starter bike, available late December... eyebrow.gif eyebrow.gif lbhh.gif

Thanks guys smile1.gif I'm pretty relieved more than anything - I was starting to think there was a conspiracy going on!

Do I do the sensible thing and save up a bit of cash for a few months or do I just go and do what I want to do and buy a bike ASAP?!

I would go and buy a bike A.S.A.P. buttrock.gif but dont rush buying it make sure you check everything out do research on the type of bike you want and the potential problems to look out for! Do you know what bike you want?? and how much you have to spend?
Sodom
I have zero to spend and I want a CBR from around 2000/2001 - the first year with the digital speedo.. all black with the red "CBR" down the fairing.. like this smile1.gif

I think u answered ur own question there then. grin.gif
RedBull600
I bought a CBR600 on a 'K' plate fer £1700 - a mintball. Got well lucky IMHO. Its was a trade-in from a dealer. Otherwise reckon I'd have got a bandit or summat like that nice n cheap. Rem you will drop the bike several times. More often than not at very low speeds or stationery so careful with how much you spend on yer first one
devilpaint
well done m8-about bloody time! lbhh.gif
Sodom
That is true Fazer smile1.gif

Although I am considering getting a consolidation loan and including the bike price in that.. then there's the damn insurance of course.. time to get saving I think...

If I can save the insurance up I think I'll then buy a bike.. (insurance being around £850 on the CBR)

Haha yeah I was expecting you to say something like that!
sammye
Can you get a loan?

I know some people may disagree but if you have problems saving like me, then getting a loan ( a low interest one ) is my only way of getting around accumulating a large sum of money. Plus it would mean you could get your bike immediately.
womble
good on yer matey

sounds like we might be seeing down in cambs in april too then

Yeah mate - I think I might get a debt consolidation loan after xmas maybe once I've saved a bit for insurance.. ideally I'd like one straight away.. but realistically I won't be able to ride it much in this weather.. Plus I still have the leathers to get.. so I'll get them first.. and I might see a bike while I'm shopping for the leathers - who knows...

Well done mate, congratulations!!

Go for the CBR, don't worry about dropping it, just fit some of those crash bung thingies.
Sodom
Thanks guys smile1.gif

Yeah I'd definitely fit those crash protector thingys.

I remember someone a while back on here posting a website that you can get them on but I can't for the life of me remember what it was!

Think that was one of my threads when I was posting about getting a VFR as a first bike but I can't find it for some reason. I got them on mine and it's great to know they are there if something happened. I've been told that you mustn't go for the cheap ones as they can do more damage than not having them at all (bent frames I think Oo1.gif). Was recommended R&G which is what I fitted in the end.

Hopefully I'll never have to see if they are any good or not!
tifosi
Found it!!

Here's the thread:

Thanks mate - much appreciated..

Just need a bike to put 'em on now grin.gif

No probs. Enjoy looking around. That's a really nice looking bike you're after. I also really liked the other CBR you posted on here a while ago with the black/orange. Saw one the other day and it just looked amazing.
Sodom
Yeah that black and orange one is nice too... it's a bit older though and harder to find with low mileage.. Also I don't think it's fuel injected and it doesn't have the digital speedo, etc.

Glad you got you licence........

Now just be careful out there,,,, it is getting cold, dark earlier, wet and slippery ....

I know how hard it is to decide between heart and Logic......

The CBR is a beautiful machine, but think carefully if that is what you need to gain experience etc....
I don't know how much experience you have or what bikes have you riden before,,, so put a bit of logic in your heart before getting one....

so yes, check insurance, see if you can get test ride or even see if you can Rent one etc.
If you think it is too much for you, get an older CB500/Er500 etc for a while...

I don't want to put you off the CBR, don't take me wrong,,, just looking out for you,,,,,,

Think we are talking crossed purposes here.  The company on the front page of the UKBikefourm is Motorcycle Direct not Carole Nash.
