Full Version: Milky oil

Right, so i had a look through the filler point which is above the sight glass and the oil was fine.  the only trace of gunge was on the sight glass itself.  I changed the oil any way and it came out oil coloured withno trace of gunge at all.  Noticed that the filler cap was not fully tightened - is it possible a bit of moisture got in through that route?
Whatever, now ive changed the oil and it didn't come out full of milky blobs Im a lot happier!

(when I highlighted it to read it )

FF, what post could you not read, are you using the standard skin of dark green and blue. The white or yellow text should show up okay.

???

I think its water or moisture in the oil. Sometimes happens, if the bike is only going on short runs and not giving the engine time to heat up and burn it off. On a car its usually due to a leaking gasket, letting cooling fluid into the oil. Don't know, if this is common on bike though.

One of the guys is bound to know something about it.

Ah, I can read it now smile1.gif  I was using the standard ikonboard? skin, a nice pale blue but the woids was almost invisibule sad1.gif

The correcrt skin to choose is cafe blue. I thought I'd disabled the option to pick your own.

Yep, nowt to worry about zomb. If you take it for a nice long and 'enthusiastic' ride the oil gets nice and hot and washes the glass clean. It's a bit like condensation on windows.

Fairly normal. As Dave said (when I highlighted it to read it veryangry.gif ) it's caused by moisture in t'oil not getting burnt off during short runs. There's a lot of damp in the air at the moment so that won't help.

As I said to the girlfriend - take it out and give it a good thrashing, that'll cure it grin.gif

The sight glass for oil level on the gippo seems to be coated on the inside by some milky gunge.  The oil still seems to be oil coloured behind it and it wasnt like this last week.  Whats happening?  Tell me it's not serious!

thank god for that!  I haven't had a lot of luck lately and that would be a right pisser if the bike was knackered as well!

And the word that springs to mind at this point is:

Emulsion

If the oil had totally turned milky then it would be as Dave has said.(Leaking gasket)
As Bikerdave has said its probably due to the amount of moisture getting into contact with the oil through lack of use, or short runs.

T'is nothing serious

Im gonna get the oil out of the beast and have a shuft at it this weekend.  im worried it's a blown gasket.

On the lighter side my new flashing light on the front seems to be clearing a path nicely through the nightime traffic jams.

If your head gasket was blown you would find oil in your water as well. This would probably be accompanied by overheating. My bike had the same problem last year when it was laidup at the winter...nearly sh*t meeself too.
