FF-I hope her Ins coughs up-but if not let me know-blimey I might just have to "un-retire" at this rate.As for the VFR bits, nearly all stitched back up-normally I wouldnt take on such a mess-but I like a challenge & my M8 is strapped at the mo-& it was a good excuse to show you lot what can & cannot be saved-its never as bad as it looks!

EB, reminds me when I used to do this full time-5 LC's a week
Had to be cos they nearly all came back within a fortnight, bolloxed again grin.gif

I find it easier to repair the plastics using bits from "scrap panels".
As you say the rods work on some better than others, but a soldering iron used properly will give a stronger result & primer fillers usually do the job of smoothing out the rough bits grin.gif   cool2.gif
fastfitter
Blimey DP, if you can sort that mess out I'm well impressed bowdown.gif

If Mrs Dozey Driver's insurance doesn't play ball, there'll be some RF panels in the post. I'm currently running in what I call '22 hours into the Bol d'or mode' - no sides and a scraped nose cone.

And as for the bike.........     laughcont.gif

ah.. reminds me of when i had my rgv250. the bike had been dropped at some point b4 i bought it and someone had badly tryed to weld the plastic back together using a soldering iron!  i spent many hours welding it back together with the plastic welder we have at work ( i think its the only time it's ever been used!)

Only trouble i had was trying to find out what sorta plastic it was cos theres loads of different types, and if you use the wrong plastic welding rod it wont stick properly. DP do u know what type of plastic they use for fairings? i cant remember now!

after repairing the fairing and seat unit i then spent  many a evening primering, rubbing down and painting it all in original colours.. or as close as i could get it anyway! i think im right in saying that ther dark suzuki blue is actually a laquer and its another colour underneath?  It was all done with aerosol's and the white stripes were made for me by a local sign making company for a couple of quid  :)

looked pretty good for a amature job! and i was well happy with it.  sold the bike a few months after .. then about a year later me and zombie saw it at a local bike meet and it had been droped again and all my good work had been wasted!  :sniffle:

I'm about to start a "rescue attempt" on a sorry crash damaged viffer.
Question is, do you want me to do a photo doc of the whole thing?
The cam I have is crap & BD will end up having to upload all the pics(probably) but if you lot are interested I will give it my best shot.
bikerdave
Why not DP. It'll maybe give some people hope, that they're pride and joys can be restored to their former glory.

The pics won't take up a huge amount of room either.
ZOMB!E
That's a brilliant idea mate.  Take loads of pictures - always better to have too many than too few - it should make a great read.
devilpaint
OK, when the bucket of bits (I kid you not) arrives I will start taking pics.
might be a while though-artistic temperament n all that :p  :D  :p
BlandWit
Splendid Idea... look forward to seeing the progress DP!

I have been rebuilding a Triumph T100T 1967 for about 8 months and I took pictures at most stages of the rebuild, now Im onto the engine and will start the camera work again.

I did some time back buy a very old looking type blank card page picture album from a car boot sale that will be filled with all the info n' pictures of the restoration which will then be passed down to my grandson for his use (hopefully) as his   love for bikes grows.
devilpaint
Right, I got the bits tonight-"before" photos tomorrow
bikerdave
It is a bit like going to bed on Christmas eve.  :D We await the pics of the twisted fairing with anticipation.  :O
devilpaint
BD, you better hope I can remember how to load the pics grin.gif  :D  :D   wwww.gif

Right!!

It's tomorrow today already. Where are they??

:p
devilpaint
Falco-I did invoke the "artistic temperament" clause in the previous posts.
I dont just sit around on my arris & paint stuff you know(well I do mostly)
some time this afternoon I will have it all laid out  & photo'd
devilpaint
Here goes nothing grin.gif
This bits  the only bit too far gone to save-the bits will come in handy though.......................................................... :p
devilpaint
now, does some one want to tell me how to post more than 1 pic at a time?
I can see you all getting bored at this rate-helps the old post count tho dunnit? grin.gif

I'm knackered now-its harder doing this than the actual paintwork bowdown.gif to BD for running this site!

Sorry if the quality of pics isnt up to much-you can fill in the blanks yerself-or ask questions, I'm happy to answer them grin.gif

I shall be sorting out the jigsaw of bits  over the next few days & updating the pics.
then its removing all the crap paint-did you notice on the side panel how great lumps have sheared off-not "keyed" properly by the muppet who painted it last-means its ALL got to come off with a DA sander-hours of fun.
If I charged by the hour I could buy another bike next month!
devilpaint
Having a break now been welding it all back together for the last 2 hours.
welding the seat hump
devilpaint
Oh, & just in case you think its like a bike graveyard in the garage- heres one i did earlier grin.gif
devilpaint
That camera is crap.
I might just go back to my old faithfull 35 mm SLR & find someone with a scanner veryangry.gif

hope this ones a bit better

There is a hack to allow that but it doesn't come as a standard feature of the software. I'll look into it.

It'll be good to see how these turn out.  :buttrock:
bikerdave
DP, those pics are fine. Keep the 35mm for the final shot, so you can show the parts in all their glory.

That cbr panel looks really good. I may to put a paint job your way sometime. Maybe ukbikeforum colours for the viffer.

Enough already or I'll mess me pants.  :O

Aye that would be nice. The St Andrews flag not the pants.
devilpaint
You want it plain blue & white or pearl white & candy blue? :p      :wwww:
bikerdave
Bugger, thats a hard one. I would mind the blue to be two tone. Like the blue background for the board and the lighter blue used for the message background. That would be extremely cool.
devilpaint
give me a weeks notice & I'll make sure I have a space in my schedule.
bikerdave
There's a couple of chips in the fairing. I'll show you them at some point. They take the look off of an otherwise very nice looking bike.
devilpaint
Sh*t-theres a piece of plastic missing!
cant find part of the headlamp section of the fairing-been through the bucket of bits twice & its not there
Trevs gonna have to buy another bit grin.gif
bikerdave
It'd be cheaper to buy a couple of mates a pint, if they help search the field where it landed. Nasty expensive things, those VFR panels. I was quoted about £40 for a piece of trim about 12" long.  :O
devilpaint
BD-the problem with your perfectly good suggestion is this,
The corner he crashed on is a bike accident black spot-LOADS of broken bits of plastic all over the place & its covered in heather

Heather is nothing - he obviously isn't as tight as me.  :D  :O
essex_biker
dp, u tryed ebay? there often loads of bike panels on there at cheap prices. I got  my spare tt600 fairing for £70.. altho at the moment one sides black, ones silver and the top piece is yellow! rolleyes.gif

Davie, I meant all the little bits are UNDER the heather-hours of scratching about saying "is this it?"
No, poor trev will just have to dig deep.

Exactly, he obviously isn't as tight as me.  :laughcont:

That sounds like a rather enjoyable day out around these parts.  :O
