I won a Kawasaki ZXR 400 on ebay.

Everything was fine and I was due to pick it up on Saturday.

I called the guy a few days after the auction and he said everything was fine but the clutch cable went on him on his way home and he had to replace it before selling the bike.

I didn't think anything of this. So I call him again a few more days later about the clutch cable and its arrival. He said the clutch cable had arrived but the clutch hadn't

Alarm bells are now going off. Why didn't he tell me before that it was more than the clutch cable?

How easy is it to fit a clutch? Could he feck it up and I get a wrecked bike?

Could there be more things he is hiding?

I need advice from experienced ZXR or other bike owners. The guy has been ringing my mobile constantly, and I need to make a decision today.

PLEASE HELP!

Thanks.

I wouldn't buy it.

It's always dodgy buying things like this on Egay at the best of times.. this guy sounds like he is on the con and I really don't think it is worth the risk.. If it was my money I would pay a little more and get something that I had 100% confidence in... I'd never buy anything like this from Egay..

Your choice though..

So...You wouldn't even trust a mechanic to have a look?

Personally - no. But that's just me - I would never ever buy anything like this off Ebay.

But if you know a good, reliable mechanic and can take him to check it over before the cash changes hands then that's fair enough.. just sounds to me like the seller is a knob..

Best thing you could ever do, i know cos Im in the this field of machanics fiddle
thingy jings winglly does.
If he's putting in a new clutch its not rocket science and most people are capable of
performing this task, look for bolts on the clutch housing that have been damaged
on their corners, is there a new gasket in place, these clutch assemblies are really
simple, seriously and the guy might be more than capable but best take someone
you know that has a good idea, getting it off E bay is just as risky as getting one
through a local paper or trader mag but I wouldnt part with any cash before a car
park ride

Depending on mileage the clutch may need replacing as smaller engines need to be
revved more to get going from a stand still, I hope you pull a deal with him that if
you dont get some sort of warranty then you're not going to pay the full submitted
price.

It also depends on how much you are spending on the bike!!!!

I wouldn't dismiss the guy out of hand he might be on the level (was his feedback score OK? This is usually a good indicator) - not everyone trading on eBay's hookie. In fact, I've never been ripped off on eBay. Just take sensible common sense precautions such as taking someone you know who knows bikes (even if its your old instructor or whatever - failing this maybe try calling bike mechanics local to the guy and pay for their time - it's worth it) and obviously take it out for a good long test ride. If you keep your wits about you you'll be ok. If there's something wrong with the bike then give the guy some rice. Tell him its not right and offer him less or just walk away explaining your reasons. If he gets shirty tell the guy to f**k right off and post negative feedback on his account.

I have sold a few bikes and cars and bits n bobs on Ebay as well as bought. I can honestly say that as a buyer i have never been ripped off. Bought my lovely Sv and the Blade before her off Ebay and have been well impressed.

However i have been had a couple of times by buyers bidding and not mturning up or even making contact. I think if you have your wits about you then all should be ok.

Lets face it guy's have you ever had something go on the bike unexpectedly. A clutch cable could go at any time. If he is saying the clutch itself is gone though thats a diff matter.

Remember:

if it looks to good to be true..........

Sell it on to some one else grin.gif
