How do you guys rate black visors against iridium?
I have an iridium one on my old helmet but was dissapointed how easily it got chipped and scratched.
So i fancy a black one for my new lid but i have heard that they can be too dark, any thoughts?

Ging, I don't have one (yet?) but a mate of mine swears by his black 'un... I was surprised how "much" you could see through it actually and it's lasted him a fair while.
Not that I know feck all about anything, of course

I use an iridium fog city thing y insert which is uspposed to be light sensitive. Ut works very well and is good compromis i reckon. Not as dark as a black visotr on a sunny day but lighter and a dark day so who knows. Singlasses are like a bacon sandwhich in my opinion - the pig is committed!

i had a iridium visor on my roof helmet which was fine for a couple of months, after a while the finish started wearing off, just by wiping flys etc off with the back of my glove.. hmm
i wouldnt waste my money on another one. either get black or a insert like zombie uses

until you're picking bits of em out of your eyes!
but then i have to wear glasses just to see(?)
i think ive detected a lens effect of my insert though as i get headaches if i wear the lid for long trips.

I wear reactolites specs but I have a Lazer Evolution lid with a secondery tinted (60%) visor, brilliant in low sun conditions, but you sometime get a streak of crap down the middle of the tint where the slot for the slider is.

Blue Irid fer me but I've had it three years. Great vision in high glare conditions.
Gonna have another one I reckon.
And I ALWAYS carry a spare clear visor. You never know when you might be late home.

Impact resist lenses m8-but 28 years of riding & I've only ever had a Bee & a wasp(on seperate occasions) in my lid.
I always keep the visor below eye level.

got a wasp in the eye once mate! Sheet did that hurt! Spent about half an hour picking bits of it out of my eye!
ive had glasses for about a year-ish now and have been considering reactolite type lenses for my next pair. I would always decry sunglasses for the possible injury problem but if, like me, you have to wear specs anyway then it has to be the way to go.
As a side note i got pulled in the historical and second oldest town of colchester for using black inserts. There followed an argument with the peeler about the legallity of inserts - now, as you know, im not one for arguing (?), but needless to say he told me to feck off with threats of the book that would be slung if he caught me again!
funny how i never get pulled during winter when the low sun is at it's most dangerous.

So inserts are legal then.
I remember seeing some on sale but didn't check them out, to see what they were like.
I wear glasses as well and don't own a pair of perscription sunglasses any more. I would mind some sort of solution for when the bike is back on the road.

The good thing about inserts is thet they are in the grey area ofd the law. Some coppers will say they are affixed to the lid and therefore subject to visor laws - i would argue that they are temporary in nature and bs and the law dont cover temporary fixings. In the end of it all you can always just pull them out if the copper gets shirty about it. the fog city by the way is anything but temporary!

Providing you have a BSI approved visor (BS 4110) or EU 22-05-its my understanding that inserts are ok-tinted more than 50% must be removed at lighting up time-as must legal tinted visors, stamped with "for daytime use only"

TC does your offer extend to the North East?

The visor law only covers primary eye protection which has to comply with BS4110 ot ECE 22/05, it does not cover tints afixed to the inside of the visor as these are not part of the visors construction, should one of the federales book you they would be acting quite illegally, this is why you never hear of anyone getting prosecuted for a visor insert, in general most federales and rurales do not know the law. Although removing the insert at night would be sensible it is not practical as they are stuck in. Where anyone would be on a sticky wicket would be in an accident at night, not neccessarily with the law but if you got tangled up with a court case or an insurance company solicitor which is on the ball any judgement may not neccessarily be entirely in your favor if the accident happened at night whilst you were wearing a tinted insert.

TC,
Newcastle is the main airport-Teeside is next, but I dont know if any of the mainstream companies fly there,
Durham city is probably closer to Newcastle airport-I know there are long term roadworks(60 weeks!!!) on the main road from teeside to-well anywhere really
It shouldnt take more than 30-40 mins taxi(depending on rush hour) from Newcastle to Durham city.Durham county is a big place mind you-are you meeting your client in the city or elsewhere?

One o the problems with inserts is when it rains!. The problem is condensation between the insert and the visor, not all inserts seal all the way round, quite a few such as pinlocks only seal at the ends, problem then is if rain goes down the inside of your visor it will get trapped between the insert, the best type to prevent this happening is Fog City visors, they seal all the way around, I stopped using inserts when due to this problem, even riding with the visor cracked open dindn't make much difference. :sus: :sus:
