Talkin to a guy today who used to be involved with making motorcycle clothing. He tells me that gortex is affected by petrol vapour and chemically alters with exposure to it. he said that is why clothing made from it looses its water resistance within about a year of use!!, this made me think (not easy to do these days), do any of you lot use clothing made of gortex? if so like my 2 jackets did yours start to leak on the arms particularly from the elbow to the wrist area of the sleeve after about 10 or 11 months from new?

Why I got thinking was that this may explain why my sleeves soak up water quite quickly, I previously thought it was water running down the outside of the sleeves then wicking up the cuffs on the inside, however after deep thought and my sleeves getting wet on my way home from Warwick earlier this evening I've realised that the actual material is soaked through rather than being wet on both sides if you get my meaning.

Surely it isn't exposed enough to make such a dramatic change. When you filling up with petrol, you're in a well ventilated area. It seems a bit strange.

I've had to make do with heavy nylon. Very bulky but doesn't leak too badly.

Apparently it does not require much exposure to petrol vapour,
