I'm thinking of removing my swing arm this winter and getting it polished, now I'm thinking about trying it myself but I don't have a clue where to start, any advice or am I living in dream land with such a notion??
chrismk
just what I was looking into, but I want to do it as a side line buss.
As far as equipment goes it seems like a lot is needed to make a fine job worthy
of a credit, yeah sure you can do it the long way like fine sand paper and loads of
elbow grease but that defeats the object of doing a fine job within reason.

well my mate just done his swinging arm of his Gixxer 1100 and it looks amazing, i will ask him what he used and get back to you.

You just would not belive the diffrence, from real dull matt to basically a chrome finish, it did take him a while, but if you have the time its well worth it!!! cool2.gif

Cheers Vlad, looking forward to your news grin.gif

Hi hello.gif

would it not be simpler and longer lasting to have it chromed...

Not sure if it can be done though...

but if you polish it how difficult is to keep it all nice and shiny?????

well just a thought buttrock.gif
Vlad
I think you may find to have anything chromed will cost a fortune!
stugsxr98
Roddas, chrome could be an option, but like Vlad says it'll cost a fortune and I'm not convinced it would stand up to too much abuse, slipping spanners, stone chips etc,I'd imagine once the chrome layer is penetrated it's just a matter of time before it all goes pear shaped, keeping it up once it's polished shouldn't be too much hassle, lets face it us blokes don't complain about having to polish our helmets from time to time,as long as it's not too often!!!!!!! mad1.gif

I polsiehd the frame on my old Blade. Once i started i wished i hadn't, but had no choice but to keep going. I srted off by using medium grit sandpaper to get the lacquer off the frame. Once that is off it goes quite dull. Then i used a Mr FASTN'R polishing kit, which works off an electric drill. Took a long time, i got filthy and burnt my drill out.

But it was worth it. Looked stunning. Cleaning wasn't to bad. Once it's clean, spray some silicon polish onto a cloth and then wipe that over it to keep that shiny look.

Hope this helps.

i'm currently working on the ally covers of the cb, they were a dull matt gray when i started but are now shiny and chrome like cool2.gif
you'll need to buy yourself a set of polishing mops and some polish sticks.
I got mine from heine gericke about 16 quid.
as for chroming you can't chrome plate ally as it's a non ferrous metal.
you could get it anodised but that really would cost some mad1.gif

chrismk,

He used a Flex polisher but you could use any rotorey sander (must have speed control or ally could get too hot), wet and dry paper on it , just cut it to fit sander head, Grade120,220,320,500,800,2000, then buff with felt pad and chrome cleaner/ metal polish, and then finish with a lambs wool bonet which you can attach to a drill.

Then he put on loads of WD/40 to repell any water and crap.

I will try to get a pic of the before and after.

If you need any other info give me a shout. buttrock.gif
