Took the Vn out this morning, 20 mile run with young un.
Got back & the bloody thing wouldnt start when I put it in the drive.
It had a new battery last week-& I cleaned all the multi plugs up before fitting-this was my downfall veryangry.gif
I must have disturbed one of the wires to the rectifier-cos the bloody thing was hanging in the wind when I pulled the battery for a charge up veryangry.gif
So while the battery was charging I decided to fix the very slight oil leak ( & the loose connection as well) on the R/H engine casing.
4 hours later    all is well-Exhaust,footrest/brake assy, crash bars, rad, tank, lower frame member-all off to remove the casing.
I now feel like I have been run over by a train ooh2.gif
trouble is-I dont trust any one enough to do any servicing on my bikes-any one else paranoid out there? cool2.gif

I'm not paranoid, just skint.  :laughcont:

Tomorrow, if the rain stays off, I'm going to go for another round with the viffer. I woke up early the other day and decided it was time to take off the swingarm. It came off  just in time for the rain starting. I had to make do with degreasing the bugger. It had chain wax on it from 1990.  :O  Just got to get the downpipes off and then I'll be able to worry about starting to put it back together.

i nearly always do my own servicing and i very much beleive that if you want it doing properly you should do it yourself.. it also helps you to understand how your bike/car works. Ive had the benefit of being brought up around cars and bikes tho, as my dad is a mechanic.

Ive heard countless storys from people who have had bad service from dealers, who miss out basic things like changing the oil or filters! When buying a bike the "complete with full dealer service history"  isnt worth anything IMHO.

My new triumph will go in for its first service to the dealer, only to keep the warranty valid. After that i will get a service manual and do the rest myself.

A tip for those people who are taking there bikes in for service... mark the things they should change like oil filters, so you can see if they have changed it or just wiped it with a clean rag!..  check the oil level window or dipstick, the oil should be clean and not dirty. Oh and you can always ask for the old bits back that they change, rather than throw them in the bin, that way you can be certain they've done it and it normally lets the dealer know, your keeping a eye on them..

If a dealer has a observation window to the workshop, stay there and watch them while they work on your bike, they wont miss anything out while your there..

oh and get a RIDE "dealer watch" sticker too  :wink1.gif:
