Well...now i have 2 bikes......a 93 Suzuki GS400E and a 86 Suzuki GS125E....

And i have 2 problems....

i don't understand nothing about bikes...i'm good with cars, and i know everything about cars...but not bikes...

So..i'm already after some Haynes manuals for the bikes...but...i'll explain the problems...

On th 125cc....it only start first time....if i try to start again..it won't start..i have to put 2nd gear and push it and that way it starts......maybe the spark plug?!

On the 400cc.....it makes a funny noise on the exhaust like a pop-pop-pop....i reckon its mainly when it's cold....is it normal or can it be something wrong?

cheers

Let's say that you need to stop for some reason.....saw a mate, or just go shopping...it won't start again..only a couple of hours later...

Might be the exhaust blowing a little past the downpipe gasket.

G'waaaan, give us a listen, mail us the clip to fastfitter@tiscali.co.uk

Stick a new plug in the 125, always a good and relatively cheap and easy place to start
bikerdave
Could it also be the cylinder head gasket blowing a little?

Allow that's more aof a high pitched peep, when I've heard it. .

Valve clearance ? as for not starting again, in what way, does it turn or does the
starter motor not engage, if it has one....... if it doesnt have one normally heat
from engine is effecting the carb/s.

If you can do cars you can do bikes.

cheers

Sounds very much like over rich mixture in the 125, possibly a jammed float in the carb, or the float valve not working, this would mean it will start first time or flood. Next time it fails to start remove the spark plug and see if it's wet, that will confirm rich mixture. On the 400 I would suspect a slight exhaust leak when cold that seals up as it warms up, easily fixed if it's a joint but it coyld also be a small hole in the collector box, that's the part of the exhaust system where all the down pipes come together and exit as one pipe to the can. Good luck, hope you fix them both. If you live in my area I would offer to have a look for you.
[JP]
thanks a lot for the answers.....

My area is Reading..is it yours?

I'll work on the mpeg video and email it also...

haa.....i don't think so..a car doesn't have a chain...i don't know how to setup that thing...

and if i hear a sound on a car i know where it cames...and what's the solution for that...and i know where is all the bits on a car...and how to change the brake pads, discs, suspension...check oil...change oil...

and i don't know nothing about bikes!! cry.gif

if there's someone around Reading that would be willing to explain me some stuff...i would be very thankfull!!
I don't even know what is the sprocket..everytime i read something about the chain....there's is also the sprocket...
well...i suppose the language is also a barrier as i don't know all the technical terms....
That's why i need someone to tell me......This is the sprocket..and does this...the chain..can be like this or this....bla,bla,bla...

Do you think they will theach me stuff like that on the CBT or DAS?
Fazerstun
They won't teach u that on the cbt or das, they may answer some basic questions for u but if u want to learn more the best thing is to get urself on a maintenace course......... alternatively u could go to Newcastle and flutter ur eyelashes at DP lbhh.gif

BTW, the sprockets are the things with teeth that the chain goes round hth eyebrow.gif
[JP]
Ho well....
i'm waiting for the Haynes manual anyway so i can try to understand a few things more.....

Glad you explain me that Fazer....or else i think i would sound silly asking at the CBT what is a sprocket?! lol...

ancientd...i saw on the Sloth topic that you are on Reading area!!Happy me!!!as you offer to have a look on the bike...can you?can you? smile1.gif thanks.
ancientd
I did send you a PM JP, I should be able to get over on Saturday morning, let me know where you are and when you'll be available.
[JP]
Nop..i didn't receive any PM...i'll PM you now.
BikerGran
Sounds like Ancient's got another pupil!

Have to set up a bike maintenance school Dave!
ancientd
Must admit I've been thinking about it, looks like the only work I can get these days. The only trouble is I've no idea about setting it up. Oo1.gif

Sign me up, Reading's not that far away buttrock.gif
[JP]
Yeah...if you had a school i would sign up!!
It's allways good to learn..
ancientd
OK if enough people are interested in learning basic mechanics, by that I mean routeen maintenance, basic fault finding, basic skills that could save you lots of money, by either solving them yourself of detecting serious future problems before they stop you, I'll try to set something up. I'm always happy to look at a bike if you need a hand, obviously I can travel in the local area but without all my tools, my car will be off the road at the end of the month and my kit is far too heavy to put on the back of my bike, I also hasve front and rear paddock stands thast can make a lot of jobs quite easy.

put an ad in the paper AncientD - but you may have to clear the barbie house out of the garage lbhh.gif
