I've been riding bikes for 13 years now and have always wanted to take it a little further. For a while i have been thinking about training to be an Instructor as a part time job. I instruct various subjects in my current proffession and am a tutor so i know i can teach IF i have the skills.

One of our local schools has a scheme whereby they pay for your training, but you are tied to them for instructing. At the moment they have had a number of guys leave them (not the schools fault, just one of thoses things).

I would like to know what the really experienced guys here like DP and TC think and their advice to me.....

DONT DO IT!

hell m8 i'm only 25 grin.gif

it can be very rewarding & frustrating at the same time, no two days are ever the same.
most schools will train you, they will have at least one qualified instructor who can "downtrain" you.
once they are happy with you , they will apply to DSA for a permit for you-you can work for more than one school-but naturally they want to keep hold of you the pay is universally crap.
at that stage you can teach CBT only, in order to be das qualified, you will have to do the two day course at cardington, beds, then the 1/2 day das course.

its frustrating as hell trying to show an uninterested 16 year old how to ride safely, & challenging to get a 76 year old out of 50 years of bad driving habits, but when it goes right, its a great feeling.

in your case of course you could arrest the buggers who turn up on bikes without a license etc grin.gif
ZOMB!E
Obviously i cant comment on the instructing as a job issue but on the issue of fancyoing something and wondering wether or not to give it a go i am an expert. Try it out steve, if it isnt for you then nothing lost mate and if you love it then great!

Give it a go, i mean, if it wasnt for curiosity NO ONE would eat corned beef.

Go on, give it a go mate .
