Does anyone know (I know some will!!) how long you have to have a full licence before you carry a pillion??

We've been told none - you can chuck em on as soon as you pass

-or-

1 to 2 years riding with a full licence.

Any light to shed.....

anyone....

Me too, once you get used to the balancing act you'll be fine.

Yup. As soon as you can find anyone stupid (or obedient) enough to get on the back...

Yep, it's just like the car, you don't have to passed for a certain amount of time before you can carry passengers. As soon as you pass, you're ready to go in the eyes of the law..
Butcherboy
Does any part of the current test deal with carrying pillions? Just wondering..
Anth
I think there's a question asked about how riding conditions change when carrying Pillion- stuff about suspention, handleing and the like.
snapdragon
Yes, the questions at the end always have a pillion related one or two. And you must have your full licence in your hot little paw - not just the pass certificate. :tounge:

I have to say whenever i carry a pillion it makes me a whole lot more responsible and less likely to "take a chance" as it were, not that i would in anyway shape or form, oh no not me lbhh.gif

I agree with Ima

When taking someone with me I am much smoooother, give much more space to the car in front and I hardly ever filter, unless the traffic is on a stand still....

you know, double responsability....... buttrock.gif

Not strictly true Dave, the rider has to be in posession of their full licence before they can carry a passenger, having their certificate of competence tucked in their wallet is insufficient.

Once your licence states that you are a full motorcycle licence holder then you can carry a pillion!

Good point TC and I have been affected by that. Many moons ago, just a few days after my brother passed his test, I gave him a life into town on the bike. He had his pass certificate but didn't have the license stating that he had passed the test.

I was stopped by the police. Well, it wasn't a surprise considering I was on L plates and carrying a pillion. I didn't get done but the police told my brother to get the bus into town until he got his full license back.

Can you still ride on the back of a learner rider, if you have a full license?
Likingitspicy
Your insurance has to cover it too I beleive, as I was asked by bennets if I was going to be carrying pillions, so my reply was no way laughcont.gif ( when confidence and experience grows I will).

Glad this thread came up then... I've been too lazy to send off my pass certificate for 13 1/2 months... blush21.gif Actually, in my defence, I need the driving license for work until the middle of this month. P'raps I'll stay 1-up 'til then... blush21.gif blush21.gif blush21.gif wwww.gif

Yeah. I couldn't believe it when I was told that actually happened to people. Thought I'd be so chuffed about passing the test that it'd be the first thing I did. But as usual, life has conspired against me... lbhh.gif lbhh.gif

Everyone can do me a favour here... Please could you all start nagging me to get it done starting on the 18th of this month? I need "mothering" you know. wwww.gif
