Bikes are heavy - couple of hundred kilograms on average.

No way to play it except dont drop it or work on that upper body strength.!

Sorry you dropped it mate but if theres a biker out there that hasnt dropped there bike at some time and struggled to pick it up ill eat my neighbours cat.
chrismk
Try picking up a GPZ1100 B2 I think it was a '82/85 model, bloody heavy 337kgs
but got it up all by my little self, never done it since.

(Please God dont let me drop the ZZR1100 cos its not blomming cheap to repair,
Amen)

cheers

Chris, dropped my d7 outside work one day and got totally stuck, if it wasnt for Essex biker id have been looking at the horizontal hulk all day! Bloody silly heavy when horizontal!
fastfitter
The trick is to pick it up straight away while you're still mad, adrenalin does most of the work. If you walk away and try later you're stuffed.

Not that I have any personal experience in this field you understand. Errrr, a mate (yeh, that sounds good) told me lbhh.gif
bikerdave
I posted about dropping the VFR, when I was out with the IAM, I did what fastfitter suggested and picked it up straight away and before the two other blokes with me got a chance to give me a hand.. wwww.gif

Nutty you're lucky and did the right thing. My brother dropped his 400 superdream about 20 years ago. He didn't have it on the stand correctly and as he turned away from the bike, he caught it moving out of the corner of his eye. He tried to catch it and did his back in with the strain.

His back still gives him agro to this day and all because of a 400 superdream. ooh2.gif

I hope there's not too much damage but don't be too embarressed. It's something just about all of us have done. blush21.gif

Aye, and some of us more than others (3 times in one week once blush21.gif)

I have a cunning plan!
what you need to solve your dilemna, is an older, more experienced man eyebrow.gif . I have vast experience of picking up bikes blush21.gif and I'm almost house trained.
My wife wouldn't mind lending me to you especially if I get her a new clematis. I haven't seen her clematis in a long time. I think Holly, the deer, has eaten it

Oooer Oo1.gif Now are u sure that wasn't the badger? lbhh.gif
Wilf
Bloody badgers, you'd think they'd be able to scare off the deer but no, they chase it around the garden for a few laps and then just pig out on whatever Louise has put out for them and then dig up the lawn.
nutybikerbabe
shes an old gs1000e and im a very slim 9 stone gurl wiv no bulk 2 me lol, i didnt stand a hope in hell of pickin her up sniffle.gif
wudnt av minded so much if i hadnt just filled her up wiv petrol, wen she went over she spat it out of every angle she cud
Madkaz
I dropped mine too.

The guy in the 4x4 in front of me was eyeing me up in the rear view mirror when it happened. blush21.gif

He raced to my rescue, and picked it up for me. I thanked him and then sped off with cheeks the colour of beetroot.

Moral of the story: get yourself some nice tight leathers, and do it when some guy has his tonge hanging out. . eyebrow.gif

gee thats bad advice.

That's a bloody long time to wait before picking it up................... lbhh.gif
BikerGran
Yep, I can certify that a GT550 (if you were talking about a Kwak) is a heavy bike!

Unfortunately when I dropped mine it was on my leg........

7 months off the road and the GT now has 3 wheels!

After a near scare this weekend with the ZZR11 Im no longer going to prop up the
bike on the side stand cos it nearly nearly went over, thought I had it right but not
when feels like it movong forward, wonder if it possible to lock a side stand, now
thats a nifty idea, never thought of that one before. (will have to look into it)

Cheers

Technique I: Facing Away from the Motorcycle - For Large Motorcycles Preferred Method for any Size
1. Turn the handlebars to full-lock position with front of tire pointed downward.

2. Find the "balance point" of the two tires and the engine, engine guard, or footpeg. The motorcycle will be fairly easy to lift until it reaches this point because it's resting on its side. Once you start lifting from there, you are responsible for the most of the weight of the bike.

3. "Sit" down with your butt/lower back against the motorcycle seat. Be very careful to keep your back straight and your head up. Put your feet solidly on the ground about 12 inches apart, with your knees bent slightly.

4. With one hand, grasp the handgrip (underhand, preferably), keeping your wrist straight.

5. With your other hand, grip the motorcycle framework (or any solid part of the motorcycle), being careful to avoid the hot exhaust pipe, turn signals, etc.

6. Lift with your legs by taking small steps backwards, pressing against the seat with your butt and keeping your back straight. On slippery or gravelly surfaces this technique probably won't work. On inclined surfaces this can be very dangerous.

7. Be careful not to lift the motorcycle up and then flip it onto its other side! If possible, put the sidestand down and the bike in gear.

8. Set the motorcycle on its sidestand and park it safely.

Technique II: Facing the Motorcycle - For Small and Medium-Sized Motorcycles Regular Method

3. Stand very close to the handlebars. Plant your feet about shoulder-width apart with the lower handgrip in between them. Use both hands to lift. Keeping your back straight and your head up, lift carefully, keeping the handgrip close to your body. Use your leg muscles for power, and not your back muscles.
