Hello people be gentle with me as I am new! I'm soon to be 18 and will hopefully have my catagory A licence. I have spent ages looking and have talked to a fair few people and the bike i'm after is a kawasaki zxr 400 as I fell in love with them as soon as I saw one. I just really wanted to know what you all thought of them and if there is anything particular I should look out for when I finally come round to buying one. Also I was wondering where the best place would be for me to get insured. Cheers. Danny.

Hi Danny,

the insurance is a hard one because an insurer that seems to be right for one person sometimes doesn't seem to be the right one for another. Your best bet is to get a list and phone around as many as possible. I had a mate who did this a couple of weeks ago and got quotes from £500 to £1300. ooh2.gif

It may take a good few hours phoning around but you'll save a packet.

Me and tom spent about a month looking for insurance and found carole nash to be cheapest for us. Firstly me:

17 years old, 1 years ncb, bandit 600 (unfaired), R reg, insured value of £2600, think im allowed to do 6000 miles a year, aftermarket can declared along with other modifications, restricted licence, kept in shed, datatagged, urban area

£547 fully comp

And my friend:

17 years old, 0 years ncb, honda cbr 400 nc29 gull arm, J reg, insured value of £2000, 6000 miles a year, standard bike, restricted licence, kept in garage, datatagged.

Old address, semi urban area

£570 fully comp

New address, rural village

£700 fully comp

They made him pay more when he moved verysad.gif

Rele depends on your area, but id expect to find something around that price if you look hard enough.

Another couple of good ones for us young un's is h&r (insurance 2000) and motorcycle direct.

Hope this helps grin.gif

Yeah it will be restricted! Thanks for all your help looks like I will be spending a fair while when it comes to getting the quotes for real. Less than two month now hopefully. I don't suppose anybody knows can give me any advice on the bike at all with things to look out for when buying? Thanks. Danny.

Hi Danny

We have a zxr40 its a brilliant bike to learn on and an ideal first sportsbike

parts are cheap and easily accesable they can also shift a bit when you get it going.

The trick is to rev the tits off it and keep it above 10k, the only problem i've had

is rusty down pipes but i got a set from a breaker for £150. If you do buy one you won't be dissapointed.
Dan
Ohhh it's sounding better all the time. just one thing I forgot to ask. Roughly how much will it cost me to get it restricted to 33bhp and how hard is it to find somewhere that does it. Thanks again. Danny
