It would be a change if this type of thing came as a surprise.

It doesn't!

feck em!! I'll continue to wear mine and carry a spare clear one at the same time like I have always done.

And I bet it's still OK to pick up a 99p pair of sunglasses and wear them instead behind your approved clear visor.....

Absolute feskin' madness. I mean take "fog lights" on cars. How many eejits are out there driving with them on all the time and/or when it's simply dark. Yes, the police do in fact stop and fine some of them, but they'd do nothing else if they clamped down on it. The choice is still there though - they still make cars with fog lights. They still trust the drivers to use them appropriately. Aren't car drivers allowed to wear sunglasses too ....? How do you tell if a car driver is wearing sunglasses at night? When you pull his body out of the wreckage?

Why spend the money on all the testing .. and re-testing ... and consulting the experts when they are clearly going to not go with their decision if it doesn't toe the party line.

Rant over. Lot of good it did though.

Grrrrrrrrrrr.

probably the kind of numpty who'd go out without a spare clear visor and have to ride all the way home with visor up.

Guess I'm fortunate that mine has an internal sun screen smile1.gif  but its typical of this lot - s'pose the DOT knows far more about these things than mere specailists and the like

Oh, yeah - just thought - allowing dark visorsd would actually be allowing riders a matter of choice and personal freedom.  can't be having that veryangry.gif veryangry.gif veryangry.gif

Conspiracy Theory:-
The Government want to be able to identify all vehicles and their occupants/riders using various recognition systems, ie digital photography and number plate recognition. Wearing a dark visor won't allow them to identify a rider quite as well as a clear visor might. (They probably haven't realised that you virtually can't id anyone wearing a full face lid anyway)

I was caught out once, having a dark visor and no clear one to swap to as it got dark. There is no way I could have ridden all the way home with the visor closed. I wasn't worried about killing anyone else, but I was worried about killing myself. I couldn't see with the visor down so I rode home all the way with the visor up. Now I never go out without a clear one to replace the dark one in poor light conditions.

I'd like to know what kind of people the minister thinks we are.
