many people hae been asking about restrictor kits + tons of people i know have bought restrictor kits, got the certificate, never actually fitted it + never had a problem!!!
till now
whilst in work today, overheard the police chattin to my boss about an accident they'd just been to involving a gs500. They were asking us how the bike should have been restricted and what the restrictor kit looks like, and where it is. They are going to strip the carb and look inside for the restrictor kit, as in their opinion a restricted bike should not have been able to do the speeds to get him in the situation of the accident
(although to people in the know the restrictor kit doesn't actually effect the bike much + you can still do silly speeds onmost bikes, een when they are restricted)
so thought i'd warn everyone that the police now seem to be checking up + are willing to pull apart the bike and strip the carb to check if the restrictor kit is in place
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED

if you have a restricted license & buy a kit but dont fit it-keep away from me.
if the bikes unrestricted, then you dont have a license to ride such a machine & if you dont have a license , your insurance is void.
personally i would take the bike & crush it-i'm seeing more people come in to learn to pass the full test as a result of police activity up here, some who have ridden for years without bothering to pass the test. no licence, no insurance-if they ever hit me then the bastards will be paying for the rest of their misreable lives(following a stay in the local A+E)
rant over , but it really pisses me off.

what we do is restrict bikes on throttle travel with dyno time to prove it. if the buyer derestricts the bike then more fool them. I explain that they have a legal responsibillity not to derestrict it and also go into the moral and sensible side of restriction. I agree with DP - if they dont have alicence to ride the bike ( ie they have surrupticiously derestricted it) then their insurance is void and where does that leave me if theyve just paralysed me in an accident? Or my five year old boy? ok so he would still be paralysed if they had insurance but at least id be able to get some cash to help him in his life. They want stringing up and i back the police one hundred percent on this issue.

its just i see enough of these irresponsible pricks in my line of work( & that includes the dealers who sell the kit , give the cert of restriction but dont fit it) & it REALLY pisses me off.

How do the restrictor kits work I'm just interested really as I will be getting a zxr400 restricted. Does is reduce the complete performance of the bike or just top end or what? Or does it differ between models. I'm just interested really. Cheers. Dan

If its an f1 international kit (or similar) then there are 4 washers that sit between the carbs and the engine in the rubbers.
Performance varies, on my friends cbr400 he was left with no power throughout the entire rev range. Completly eliminated the bikes powerband and any ooomph it had before.
My 600 bandit still performs as it did at below 8500 revs + 60mph , and in normal riding to slightly pushing it you wouldnt notice it was there, seems to keep it below a ton ten though. The private roads around my house arnt long enough to get anymore out of it.
