right....

after work i got on the bike and tried to start it, NOTHING.
hmmm, choke upto full, NOTHING.
damn.
i didnt think it was the choke as there wasnt even the sound of it trying to start.
only sound was from the kickstart being pushed down by my foot.

got off the bike and had a look where the choke is and i see a cable not connected.
push it back in and still no life in the bike.... *$%^

after trying to start ir some more it finally kicked in... YAY

so my Q is what was this cable/pipe thing as i cant see what it is from the owners manual.
it is also split at the end so it might need replacing, is it gonna be a big job?

here is a pic - sorry its gonna be another biggi sad1.gif (posted as a link this time)

My Problem

also i need help with the laft hand grip - it keeps coming off in wet weather.
it came off at the lights on the way home, i need to get this fixed urgently
so how can i get this to stay on?

cheers

Hi Sloth, I wouldn't worry too much about the pipe it's probably just a breather pipe. Does the end that's not attached to the carb just hang under the bike? if it does its a breather pipe.
Was it raining up your way today, if it was you may just need to get some WD 40 and spray inside your spark plug cap. It's not a bad idea to carry a spare spark plug with you as well.
If you've already removed the grip cleaned and dried the inside of it and it still comes off I'd either wrap some insulation tape or self vulcanizing tape around the bit of handlebar covered by the grip and force the grip back on or put a splodge of araldite in the grip before I put it on.

i dont know where it goes to, all i can see it heads up somewhere towards to seat.
it has never done this before and it seemed like there was no life at all in the bike.

as for wd40, i knew i forgot summut when i picked up the oil & lube.

i will have a go at the grip tomorrow and shove some tape around it for now.
will try and find something more perm when i have more time to look at it.

thanks for the help.

See if you can trace where that pipe goes, does your seat unclip or do you have to unbolt it?
Sloth
the seat needs to be un-bolted.

i had a very quick look over the bike on sat (thats when i took the pics)
hope to have a better look over it when i recieve the haynes manual.
Sloth
got the grip off tonight.
wraped a cloth around a screwdriver and there apears to be black stuff inside.
there is also some kind of black mark on the handlebars so i presume the black stuff was used to kinda hold the grip in place.
also noticed the grip is about an inch too big, it wont fully fit on the bars.
think this is why its so easy to come off in wet weather as the bottom part of the grip (even after being cleaned) still twists slightly.

would it be better to try and source another grip instead of trying to patch it?

i tried to move the controls on the handlebars over a little but they are held in place with a notch that fits into the bars and i dont fancy drilling another hole further along the bars.

oh and the bike started first time this morning & after work even after/during heavy rain so it must of had summut to do with the pipe that came off.... musnt it?

When I hired the cg before, I used to find that it didn't like starting up 1st thing or if it had been left standing for any amount of time

We used to get them baja grips.. The were foam type grips and were quite good. It might be worth getting a pair of them or some other aftermarket type grips. The throttle grip is the biggest pain to replace though because it's usually glued to the plastic throttle sleeve.

I small amount of glue on the end of the grip should help hold it.

Im with Wilf with the pipe, it looks very much like a breather, but hell dont take my word for it, but if it aint got no clips on it/ came off very easy, thats probably what it is.

With your grips, i'd also use some "Insulting Tape"

Anyway, have fun!

Im not seeing any pics so i dont know! Left out again ................its like school all over....................
Sloth
sorted the grip out... finally smile1.gif

tried hairspray and it worked good for a few days then it started to come off worse.
got some tape and its now great, took ages to get it back on but at least it shouldnt come back off now smile1.gif

also stuck about these damn lower end (downwards) gear changes.
some days it sweet and very smooth to change but others it just dont wanna change.

looks like its a garage job for it devil1.gif

Did you manage to solve your vacuum pipe problem, I reckon it goes to the
ignition module if it has one or to a vacuum advance unit, its function is most
important in the performance sector as well as preventing overheating due to
timming not being advanced on engine RPM, oh you also loose a bit of power.

Cheers

i never looked where it went as it has been fine since.
that was the only time the bike has never started & was due to the cable not being connected.

if i ever have a need to unbolt the seat i will have a look where it goes.
