Full Version: Track Days anyone?

Loz
Hi All,

New to this forum so forgive me if this is an old topic.

I got back into biking in June with a mind to just doing track days and since have found them to be fantastic fun. I did one yesterday at Croft and only got an afternoon of riding but, WOW!! it was fantastic. Knee scraping, peg scraping, diving under or round the outside of riders on much bigger better bikes. Its great fun.

Do any of you do track days and have any good stories to tell?

Does the forum attend trackdays as a group?

This is a little of me at my happiest...

Anyone up for some of this? fcrossed.gif
(Pic edited by zombie - sorry mate it was a bit big, hope youre not offended.)

Hi Loz, the are only a couple of folks who do the track days but hopefully they'll be able to give you some info.

It's too expensive for my liking. blush21.gif

On a Vmax?

Probably not thanks all the same. wink1.gif

Ok, I here ya.

Croft and Cadwell Park track days are usually £79-99. and thats 7-8 20 minute sessions and all the FREE INSTRUCTION you can ask for.

Good value and not Like a £229 Brands Hatch affair. Trust me, I'm on a budget too.

While I have your ear though, Admin can you resize my signature pic so its a little more "dial up user" friendly, please?

Cheers,

Loz

PS. Fantastic Forum! just what the doctor ordered. bowdown.gif

Track days are good fun but I am a little concerned about a school that lets you pass another rider on the inside. I would question this with them as it is not good policy. If it is just a free for all then you will likely not learn anything and just be whizzing around and not actually getting any faster or better. Just a few things for you to think about when booking your next trackday. laughcont.gif

I can't get the pic at the moment. I'm getting a gateway error. Could you add it as an attachment to a post and I'll get it done.

Hi there,

Maybe I was not clear before. Trackdays are not RACE SCHOOLS. there are instructors their who will freely tutor you if you ask for it and they will school you on any aspect of riding. As for passing up the inside I am not sure where this came from rolleyes.gif If its the pic above then I was not passing the Gixer 600. as he was about to turn into the hairpin too tight after Complex (the corner I am emerging out of) I did manage to rid round the outside of him at the hair pin though on a better (passing) line.... Only to be out powered down the start finish straight.

Also while Track days are not for everyone. I would also submit that while timing is not condoned....ahem... If it had been I might have found that my lap time started at 2:05 and peaked in final session on same bike at 1:47 which would suggest that some riders are capable of improving in "free for all" conditions.

Anyway, I'm sure you were just being funny so I hope the explanation helped those who might have thought you had a point to make. bum.gif

Already done that for him once in a different thread. Anyway, here goes again, - this one's 8k instead of 312k... wwww.gif

There's a problem with whatever's hosting Loz's mammouth images at the moment anyway...
bikerdave
Loz, I think Nick got that impression by this comment.

I don't know anything about track days as I've never been that kind of rider even when I was on two wheels, but I have to say it's refreshing to find a speedfreak with the sense to know where to indulge his/her inclination!

Big up to Loz! thumbsup2.gif

hello.gif LOZ welcome to the forum,im a newee too and also from west yorks im from huddersfield, Where are you from?
Track days are great but i wouldnt like to do it on my blackbird ,the thought of my pride and joy sliding along park straight on its side after coming out of charlies would be unbearable sniffle.gif cry.gif
did some club racing in my ( mad1.gif) youth days. Im from Grimsby orig so Cadwell was my local circuit, have mixed memories, of that place lost 2 good friends there.I stopped racing and have never been back since, not even to watch.
Im a more sedate rider these days but i do understand the attraction of track days, the adrenilne rush and the buzz it gives is brill

Ps I use to have one of those, (bike in sig pic) good track bike.
Loz
Thanks Biker Gran. Big ups are appreciated.

Mr Blackbird! just up the road. I wish I had read this earlier. I have just been on a ride out to a pub in Hudds. I am from Apperley Bridge/Idle Just between Leeds and Bradford.

I share your pain on loosing friends. I lost mine on the road and thats why I try and confine my riding to trackdays. Its just plain safer for EVERYONE.

Maybe if you are up for a steady ride out sometime we could meet up. I warn you though, MY ZXR750 (and yes, great track bike!) is going and I am getting a daytime MOT for my FZ400R tomorrow I hope so will be on a little revy number.

Cheers and Thanks admin for sorting my Sig pic. You are a star!

Your on mate must arrange ride out sometime I go to Squires. and the Fishermans at Hollingworth lake Have you been there?
AS i remember ZXR750 mad1.gif bike hard suspension,. alright for track to hard for roadsl

Thanks Dave, thought it was just me for a minute. As for your lap time coming down, this may just show that your tyres warmed up and you got a better feel for the track. This doesn't mean that you learned anything about going faster or form. Not to boast but I have been on the track with Kevin Schwantz, have ridden on the street with Foggy (Used to live 2 doors down from him) and have crossed swords with up and coming HRC RedBull riders like Carl Harris so I do know a little bit. Seems to be a lot of aggression in your posts, why is that ?
Loz
No Agression meant, Nick. maybe a bit too much passion.

As for your riding mates. Small world. I Met Foggy, Micheala and SLick Bass at the Assen '95 GP after party among others. Really nice bunch. Ridden out with Niel Hodgson and been taught on track by Mark phillips, Pete Boast and a few other Track stars. I found that I learned loads from them and practicing what they taught me even now brings improvements in my riding.

You could have a point about my times and the tyres were it not for the fact that each session they were coming down rather than in one session. But its a good point.

Bottom line: can't please all of the people all of the time. I think trackdays are great and I respect your right to a differing oppinon. I'd still buy you coffee at squires. Nowt worth falling out over. laughcont.gif bum.gif laughcont.gif

I think was just trying to get the excitement felt by riding on a track - he felt he improved and he probably did, i dont see how he couldnt have, practise makes perfect and all that.

I would love to do a trackday, maybe i will this year. fcrossed.gif
Loz
Would love to meet you for a track day sometime Zombie. Where in the UK are you? there is a calendar of events on here

let know which ones appeal and I will try and get on too. be nice to put a face to the posts.

Nick,

I was at the Donnington GP when Kev retired and they named a curve after him. (1995) Was a sad day to see him going round the track in a Red Merc SL waving. I had always hoped to see him on his zook, waving... Still. Envy you for having the chance to ride with him. Hope you enjoyed it.
nickr6
Yeh it was good. A friend of mine Brad Coleman was an instructor at his school down at Road Atlanta. He used to give us quite a lot of free track time down there and at Virginia International Raceway. Sadly all that is now gone that I live back in the UK but I will be doing a few track days with Focused Events once I manage to get away form this travelling lark. Maybe I will see you at one of the days. I will be doing maybe Donny, Silverstone and a few others within striking distance of the NorthWest. Cheers M8

Loz
Thanks for the link. Looks like I just missed out on a welsh track day today!! I seriously thought about packing the bike and turning up on spec. Then I looked out side and as I couldn't see tothe bottom of my garden for the fog and mist and rain I thought, maybe just maybe I should wait til croft or cadwell next week.
