Hi there,
I am looking to start learning to ride a bike soon.
I have considered quite a few different 125 bikes such as the CBR125 and the Aprilia RS125 but the one that stands out most to me is the Honda NSR.
My question is...
I would like to get the NSR but its 2-stroke meaning it sounds sh!t...
Could i get some sort of "legal" can or alteration to the bike to make it sound like a 4-stroke or not as high pitched? Would i be allowed this as a "learner"?
I really want this bike but dont think i could ride somthing that sounds like a wasp in a can!
I would get the CBR125 but i have seen it in real life and it's tiny! I am 6ft4 and wouldnt look to good on it! heh
I would appreciate any answers
Thanks a bunch
Have you tried the NSR for size? There's not going to be much difference between that and the CBR. You're never going to get a stoker to sound like a 4. You may be better doing Direct Access and getting yourself a cheap 500/600 which will fit you better and be more able to cope with the load you will put on it.
ians right the 125 race reps tend to be a bit on the small side.
if you don't want to do the das you could consider something along the lines of a honda cm125. i'm 6' 2" and i started out on one of these great bike and lots of fun to ride.

I've got an old (G reg) 2 Stroke, not a racer though and 2Smokes are not necceserily as bad as you may think... they need a wee bit more maintenance but you should be doing that anyway.
Oh- and the extra £2.00 a month on 2Stroke oil and you need to let it warm up a bit before moving off

But on the upside- 2Strokes are meant to be better at acceleration than their 4 stroke counterparts.
A kid (barely 17) was on a CBR125 (4stroke) and was egging me on to race him... even though I kept it legal (started when the road suddenly changed from a 30 to a 60MPH limit) he was left FAR behind

I was out on sunday with a lad on an Aprilia RS125 and it had the Arrow Exhaust on it. sounded much nicer than standard. A two stroke is always gonna sound like a screamer though. thats half the fun.
have you considered hiring a bike for your CBT and then buying a bike more your size?
You seem fairly concerned about looks rather than function. With this in mind why not do a 3 day full licence package and go straight out and buy a CBR 600 or something?
Hope this helps

Cheers for the info guys...
Well considering all my options i think i might just go straight for a bigger bike..
Whats this 3 day course you talk of? How much does it cost?
I might do that and then just get a 4-stroke 250cc or something...
I am not after a fast bike, Thats why i like the 125 4 stroke...
I will continue to look into different options.
Thanks for info

......Not that i know owt, and i'm sure if i was a bit more blessed in the stature dept i would have gone direct.....but i just wanted to say that I loooooooooooooooooove my NSR 125,
And as for the screeching/hair dryer sound, it's all part of the fun!!!
you can always move on later.
It's a bike you can gain experience on but not dread being seen on.
That's my thoughts anyway,
Good luck with whatever you decide!
Oh, and the Aprillia 125 is slightly higher seat wise, i can't touch the floor on that, whereas i can get my tippy toes down on my NSR.

I am all of 5" 1'..........
So the NSR is ideal for me.
It's totally up to you, but i love it.
and as i said, you can move on after you've gained some experience.
