Blimey. I never thought having a skinny bum would have a downside.
I've just been out on the bike for about an hour and my poor bum is sore and aching, and my right leg feels like it's been doubled up under me for about 4 hours.
I never had this problem with the bikes at the school and we were riding for a couple of hours at a time there, so I can only guess that it's the riding position of the hornet that's making me uncomfortable. Does anyone have any suggestions about what I can do to make things easier on my bum and my leg ? Is it possible to get more comfy seats ? ...Or an insert in my textiles to cover-my-ass
You can get gel seat pads which you can fix to your seat for long rides. I also believe you can get purpose made seats with gel inserts. A Google search may well find what you're after.

Yes you cam get Get pads etc or a completely new seat....
but try for a few more days, it may be the case of getting used to it and relax on the bike a bit more,
or you have to butt exercise

Cheers folks - I'll have a scope around those links and see what I can find. Tried the pie trick Fazer - it didn't work - they squished after the first mile and left a helluva mess !

So I went to www.motorbike-seats.co.uk this morning and looked up the one for the Hornet. It looks pretty snazzy, so I emailed them for a quote, and Melvin had got back to me within 4 hours (and on a Sunday, too). I'm impressed already.
And they can do it with gel pads too (thank god ! My bum's still sore !) I'll go out for a quick ride this evening and consciously try to stay relaxed and loose on the bike (esp my leg & bum), and if I'm still convinced the seat needs more padding then I'm going to place my order tomorrow. Letcha know how it goes.

arris sorted then. As for the leg, you might find some gentle warm up and stretching exercises just before you ride helpful, until you're more used to the riding position. Don't overdo the stretching though (obviously)...

I think the main thing that helps you not to ache is to learn to relax, and there are several ways to do that. First, don't push yourself - don't think "I ought to be riding faster" - if you relax and ride at your own speed, you will find the speed comes by itself.
Also I always find that it helps to sing or talk to yourself - even if you just say 'relax you silly b****r! '
And practice consciously dropping your elbows - they should be loose, and don't grip the bars tightly cos it makes the steering twitchy and that makes you tense up more.

Thanks BikerGran - I'll give your tips a try when I'm out next

Some times i find that my leathers give me a sore butt, if the stitching is in the wrong possition it can make me real sore.
I have a pair of padded leather trousers with all the strech panels n all, when i had my FZR1000 they used to restrict the circulation and my legs also used to get sore.
