Hi guys

I'm just about to move house and will be keeping my bike in the back yard/ driveway behind the house.

The people that have just moved out said that 2wice they had cars broken into round there- access is down a little alleyway and visibility is blocked by trees and bushes between the house and the drive.

there's going to be my 1990 gsx600f and my mate's 1997ish 1998ish fazer parked there and a car or 2 aswell...

what kind of security can i fit to deter- nay- prevent those scumbags that would otherwise chav mine or my mate's bike.

and on a similar note: what is the world coming to? both my bikes at the moment are parked out front of my house... both with steering lock, one with disc lock, one covered by an oxford cover worth about 80 or 90 squids, the other covered by a 20 squid halfords cover... my housemates came home at about midnight last friday- no worries...i came back from working at the nightclub i work at 0230 and some little git had 'alf inched the £20 cover...

what's the bloody point?

i wouldn't be at all surprised if it ended up being stuffed in someone's wheely bin at the end of the road when they got bored of carrying it

Personally I think the best deterrent is to make the bikes immovable.

Sink a bloody great ground anchor into the path, provided it is concrete, or failing that, the wall of the house and chain the bikes to it.

Failing that, then I'd be inclined to chain the bikes together as it would be hard to move both of them.

As to alarms, they're good but I wouldn't trust an immobiliser, they have a habit of immobilising the bike when you least want them to!

i've fitted alarms for years and to be honest the flash light does the job just fine. if you do fit an alarm never stick the free alarm stickers on your bike, this gives a real pro a head start on getting round the system, because he knows the alarm type fitted

If you want to fit a flashing led, here's info on how to do it by that nice man woodz... thumbsup2.gif

Couldnt have put it better myself.

Ask yourself this:- almost every 1000, 600, 750 sportsbike cant even be insured these days without the fitting of a cat one grade alarm. hence almost everyone of these type of bikes have cat one alarms.

Given that, why are they still right up there amongst the most nicked bikes?

Answer = because alarms dont prevent the bikes getting nicked.I know it sounds silly but it really is a s simple as that. I have often wondered if all the insurance companies have shares in the alarm companies.

Yep, ground anchor and feckin big chain! And preferably through the frame not just through one of the wheels. And security light - they are fairly inexpensive from B&Q or whatever, but fit it high enough so they can't nobble it.

Best way is not to let any know there is a bike at the house. Thieves don't search every garage or shed looking for a bike, they are told where they are. Don't leave it parked at the front. As soon as you get home, straight round the back and out of sight. Also leave it parked under a window with one of those IR flood lights pointing at it. Its a thief with very big nads that will take a bike parked right outside a window especially if it is chained and floodlit.

we've had cars and bikes nicked before but as soon as we got that little flashing LED we had no more trouble.

I think a ground anchor is best.

I've got one of those Oxford Defiance ones - you'd need one hell of a metal saw to get through it!

SOLD!!!

a big fekkin chunk in the ground with a ruddy great chain, and one of those dinky little flashy lights...

sounds simple enough

would love to fir a security light but i don't think it'll do much- the view is obscured by trees and bushes so you won't be able to see the bikes from the house

Also regarding your bike cover.

Got a new one and it was stolen on the first week.....

So I got a New One, Made some cut out on paper and sprayed the cover..

So now blue cover with my own art work in Silver spray, a few letter and numbers to mark it, a smiling face with the words --- " Smile you are on camera "

On the inside writen part of my post code and some numbers.

I did also put some Silver tape to make it more visible

.They can get it but I will recognize that cover anywhere.

well it seems to have worked, done the same with the one at work and no problems for over 1 year...... grin.gif

and for the bike, 2 disk locks, chain and ground anchor, alarm/Imm, parked on the parking space under the window of my flat...... plus befriended all the kids and teens that live at the access back street. They know me so they keep it safe too.

Now when I am out washing the bike, they come by ask about this and that and tell how they will get a bike when they get a bit older.......... cool2.gif

and since I am a bit crazy, bike is Datataged, datadoted, and all my Flat neighbours know that is my bike. left them a nice note saying
""" if you see something, please take action...."""
Neighbourhood watch..............

Nice idea.. buttrock.gif

My bike is parked over my bedroom window on a stone chip path. My dog might not be fierce, unless you're a postman but she hears everything. Her barking will wake me up.. thumbsup2.gif
