Gixer six and R1 - chalk and cheese mate. the r1 is much much more powerful than the six and much much more shapr in the steering department - hence Dave's twitch limit warning.
No reason why you shouldnt go for it though, just go easy and take time to appreciate the extra oomph. Brakes are fantastic too.

A mate was on an R1 and when he went to overtake a car in 3rd gear he whacked the throttle open and it kicked the arris of the bike right round.
They're a bit brutal but I'm trying to get my hands on one as well so if you get one before me tell me what they're like.

Bit like when i got my first zed - i needed to enter a roundabout 'positively' to take advantage of a gap , gave it the sort of handfull i used to give my seven fifty and entered the roundabout sideways, fishtailed round half of it and put it down to one of those 'how the hell did i get away with that' moments!

thanks for the advice, all I need to do now is sell the GSXR.
I think I'll go for the silver and black R1.

I would recommend a new one as they have had the power delivery smoothed out a little. The old ones where totally brutal compaired to the just plain brutal new ones. Not sure what the OEM tyre selection is on an R1 but I would make sure you had some top quality SS rubber on them and not your usual Dunslop Kak
