Hello there,
Great site, so I joined !!!.
I am about to take my Direct Access course and was thinking about buying a 92 ish zzr600 as my first 'Big' bike.
I have had plenty of small bike experience in the past and have been sensible before buying a bike spending £800+ at Hein Gerik on clothing and AGV GP Pro lid.
Where would be the best place to buy a ZZR and what should I expect to pay for one ??? If anyone has a good one for sale I would be glad to hear from them.

many thanks for your help.

Nice bikes mate, and welcome by the way.

Reckon to pay between about £500 to about £3500 dependant on age model and condition. I should have thought about £2000 would get a nice one. Plenty about though so dont buy the first one you see - shop around mate.

Had a quick shooftie on ebay but there are only a couple of dogs on there at the mo.

Good Luck Sparky. I saw a zzr600 in a local bike shop the other day, they look really good. If you are good with mechanics and also have a bit of luck, you can pick up a good deal privately. Even if you have to go to a shop, have a good look around and compare the prices.

Double check your quotes for insurance as well. The zzr is quite a sporty bike, you might find that the insurance might be a good bit heavier than something like a fazer, for example. So get an insurance quote just to be on the safe side.

Hi sparkey, welcome to the site, i've got a ZZR 600 and so does my hubby.

I paid £2000 for mine (92 model) and my hubby bought his a couple of weeks ago for £1800 (92 model) To be quite honest mate, the zed in my opinion is the nuts laughcont.gif i found it a bit on the heavy side to begin with, only because my previous bike was a GS 500, but i got to grips with it in no time at all and hardly notice the weight any more. The only advice i can offer, is if you do get one, change the screen and put a double bubble on it, otherwise you'll feel like your head is going to come off, once you go over 60 mph laughcont.gif

I did a lot of looking round before deciding on the zed (mainly because i'm a short ersed 5' 2") and found it to be the best for me. I tried out loads of other bikes at the BMF Tail End last year and the zed was still my fave, so when i come to change my ride, i'll still opt for the zed (although that won't be for ages yet as i managed to bag a bargain with mine, mint condition and only 9000 miles on the clock !!!)

But good luck with the DAS and happy riding

There's a guy I know from another forum who likes his zzr 600 so much that if he could teach it to cook and get it into bed he'd probably divorce his wife.

just remember, the zzr has a lot more kick than any das school bike you will be riding!

they are an excellent bike(i would say that of course) a good all-rounder with sporty pretentions, not as forgiving as say a cbr6 but still a great buy. they are seen as a bit old hat now, but will keep up with anything else in the class.
mechanically not much goes wrong, there are stories about the suspension being a little soggy after 10,000 miles, & the early bikes were prone to rotting downpipes & collector boxes.
go for the latest bike you can afford-but check on ins b4 you buy.

I've just bought a ZZR600 myself - I'm picking it up this Saturday and I can't wait! wwww.gif

Its a 2000 W reg E7 model for £2800 with only 9k miles under its belt. I thought it was a bargain!
I found it on BikeTrader. There are loads of early 90's models on there (depending on your location, of course), so if you shop around, you should find a good one no probs.

Welcome Sparkey and good luck hunting.

welcome Sparky

I test rode a ZZR when I passed in 1996 but found it heavy, but it was a good bike for all round. Just dont think it was me.

To be honest I would suggest a 500 to start as cheaper insurance and experiance is great fun. Also if you drop it no fairing to crack and cost a small fortune.

But welcome and happy riding

P.S would suggest a gixer but you have to walk before you can kick arris. buttrock.gif
