Any advice please on making my seat more comfortable for long rides?

In the last few months I have started to spend more time on my bike, which is great but after about an hour I am so uncomfortable - or rather my bum is.

I have a Fazer 600 and when I bought it I had the seat lowered - from what I have read on the internet that seems to be the likely cause, but not sure what the solution is, there seems to be some gel padding on the market but want to make sure I get something that is going to work as there seems to be conflicting advice on those.

In the short term I read that a sheepskin would help - I saw plenty up the dales yesterday if I had known that!

I had gel pads fitted by Tony Archer, they were £60 per gel pad, and transformed the comfort of the Raptor seat.

I bookmarked this the other day

I don't know anything about them but I'm thinking of getting one - I find it reassuring that they come from a place that does medical stuff, and if you read the description it sounds good, can't tell till I try one of course.

Someone else has just recommended Tony Archer, so I think I will give him a ring and see what he can offer also the medical company sounds worth a look.

Thanks grin.gif

Tony Archer seat conversions are highly thought of by the RF mob - as good as a Corbin but a fraction of the price. Might be an idea to see if you can pick up a damaged/second hand seat off EBay for him to work his magic on?

These look like exactly what I bought a few years ago. I bought them from the USA despite them being called "bum buffers" by the website selling them at the time.

I then bought two (rider & pillion) seats through ebay and had a local upholsterer insert the pads (without the covers provided obviously (they are in the loft)) into the seats. I now swap them over as I like.

I think the upholsterer charged about £30 ish.

They work a treat

Update on my seat - I have left my seat with Tony Archer after lots of recommendations and I should get it back this week, he is going to put a gel pad in it, can't wait to try it (dare I hope for some nice weather??)

He is so difficult to find, it took me an hour of driving round to find him so if anyone is going there I KNOW WHERE HE IS NOW!

So watch this space!

great grin.gif - sounds like a damm good idea then, might help my painful back thumbsup2.gif
wow
I also used Tony Archer for lowering my seat, no gel pad needed still enough padding left, the bandit seat is really wide not like my last bike the SV which after taking foam out also needed gel putting in. It is cheaper from the south to send it to Huddersfield then to use a company based over here. And he comes recommended by the bike world.

Hm, maybe this is something I should think about - not that I want my seat lower but I think the gel pad would be good for my arthritic hips.

Sounds like we are all dropping to bits.............
