Today was the Beesa's turn for some attention. I fitted the new carb and managed to get the throttle cable connected up. The thing started second kick which in itself I thought was a minor victory. However instead of being on full throttle all the time now it wouldn't idle off the throttle (still better than it bouncing down the drive as it was previously). Tried adjusting various things and now it won't start at all. Decide to check the plug and find it is all wet and black so clean it up. and put it back in. Fires second time again and manage to keep it running for about 3 minutes but still won't idle and eventually dies. Pull the plug again and it is once again all wet and black. Even I know this probably isn't good.
Decide I'll take the sump off and drain whatever oil is in there. This is where I was a little surprised as there must have been at least 1 to 1 & 1/2 pints came out. The BSA is supposed to have a dry sump so I wasn't expecting quite so much. Is normal or does it mean that there is probably something wrong in the scavenge return valve or oil pump?
