Hi

You may remember signing a petition calling on Edinburgh City Council Transport Infrastructure and Environment Committee to review and reject proposals set to abolish dedicated Motorcycle Parking within the city's controlled parking zones.

This is just a quick e-mail to update you on developments.

Thanks to considerable numbers of Motorcyclists contacting the Council to object to their proposals, it is being suggested by City Development, that a further review of Motorcycle Parking provision is undertaken prior to any changes being made.

While we welcome this suggestion and are willing to work with City Development to seek sensible alternatives for under utilised bays, we non the less wish to make it abundantly clear to the council the strength of feeling among Motorcyclists and Scooter riders to any widespread reductions in this valuable resource for riders, living in, working in or visiting the City.

To make this point ahead of the Transport Infrastructure and Environmental Committee meeting on the 27th July where the proposal is to be voted on, we have organised an escorted run from the East end of Regent Road, via Princes Street, Lothian Road, Melville Drive and the Bridges returning to Regent Road

All riders are urged to assemble at Regent Road at 11.30 for a 12 noon departure on Saturday 24th July.

Help spread the word. Further details http://edinburgh.mag-uk.org/

Aww crap - I'd like to be there, but I'm leaving for Squires in the next hour.

Amusingly enough, they're laid tramlines along Princes Street (overdue, overbudget, and unwanted), and when they get wet they're slippy as hell on the bike. No real surprise there, but the incredible thing is that the rails are on the same wheel track as LTI TX3 taxis (yep, the same black cabs you see everywhere). So the taxis end up skidding and weaving if they get caught in them. I've been in a taxi changing lanes across them, and it's a hell of a wobble.

But that's the trams - another genius idea.

The space I usually use to park near the office is slated for a dual-purpose space, so the first dick in an X5 will bag it and deny 3 or 4 bikes any parking...

Well no - the parkies around my work are fecking savage. You park squint and they'll ticket you. And if you pay for your ticket (in the car) they photograph your motor. It you try "feeding the meter", without moving your car, they ticket you for that too...
