Hello all please go easy on me this is my first post on this forum

I have a Derbi GPR 50 2006 and I am just turning 17 next week and I want to move up to a 125 but I cant really afford to this so I looked into fitting a bigbore kit to my gpr 50 but all I will gain on top end speed is 15 mph they say it will do 75 mph with the 80 cc bigbore kit 21mm carb and performance reed block its doing 60 mph as it is now with the exhaust just derestricted this upgrade would cost £420 and I don't think it is worth it for an extra 15 mph.

So the next thought I have had and this is the purpose of this post would it be possible to fit a Derbi GPR 125 engine in to the GPR 50 frame and would it fit just straight in I would assume that I would also have to fit the 125 carb as well has any one on here ever done this I would be greatfull of and advise and replies

Hiya Stuart hello.gif and welcome to the forum.

Unfortunately, everything I know about scoots can be printed on a posatge stamp, with a one inch margin ooh2.gif

But my two-penneth-worth; don't bother mate. Save those pennies for the bigger scoot/bike, you'll get more perfomance sooner that way (been there).

I'll second that. Jeremy Clarkson said, on Top Gear, "if you want to make a fast car, start with a fast car." 50cc scoots have their place, but performance isn't really part of the picture. Rather than trying to wring every last ounce of power out of the wee beast, save your cash for an upgrade to 125.

1) People are always moving up from 125s with L-plates. There's always a turnover of these machines.
2) You'll never get the same power out of a rebored 50 than you will out of a 125.
3) You'll have to declare it to your insurance, which will likely bang your premiums sky-high compared to a stock 125.
4) Running a little motor really hard like that will put a lot more stress on it. More than it was designed for. You might be fine, but on the other hand you might run into reliability problems.

That's just my opinion, of course. Welcome in to the forum. Your round - it I get you to the bar, youre paying!

Hi Stuart and welcome!

I was thinking pretty much all of what Defiler just said! Stick with it and save! Ask for cash for birthday and Christmas! And get a cheap old Honda CG, they go on for ever and it doesn't matter if it's not that pretty cos you will drop it at some point anyway, and you'll be selling it again when you're qualified to ride a bigger bike!

Thanks for the replies lads I might just continue to ride this wee hair dry about for a while yet its better than a bus and then start taking lesson and get my full licence and save the penny's then I can move on to a bigger bike
