While it was quiet in the shop I started having a gander at the open facers and thought hmmm... My race rep Leon Haslam arai does look a touch out of place on my speedmonster. I picked up a cheapo one just to see what it was like and it's GREAT!
I thought I was well connected to the environment but now everything is so much more vivid. The bike seems so much louder without much increase in wind noise and visibilty's even better.
OK, anything near 80 is a tad uncomfortable and being hit on the nose with a fly at 70 smarts a touch but it's still somehow better. Mucho pleased with my new lid, although the arai's going back on for long distance, if it's raining or cold.
And, yes I do realise it's not as safe blah-blah, yadda-yadda, and I even wear kevlar jeans!!! Quick, Mildred, call the police!

Slippery slope Ronz... You'll be in flipflops, shorts and a vest top in no time!!

Each to their own mate, if it improves your ride, and you're happy with whatever risk (there's always risk on a bike) then go for it!

Personally I've had a big @ssed bumble bee hit me in the shoulder at 70mph, and the bruise it gave me was unreal! It hit the only part of my jacket that wasn't padded, but had it hit me in the face I don't think I'd have stayed on... At the very least I would probably have cried!! Would have cried lots more if it also embedded it's stinger into my face! Ouch!!

That's enough of a reason for me to ride full face with visor down at all times

Aaahh the old helmet russian roulette thread, havnt seen this in a while . I have thought about it recently though as a mate came off at 60 on a bend and completely trashed his full faced lid but no facial injuries, and another was pulled out in front of a couple of weeks ago in town and has a broken jaw, half face lid .

I thought at the time.. now there is my case rested

Don't get me wrong, I didn't look to start a safety rant post. I just wanted to say how a whole new angle on riding has been opened up for me, I'm well aware of the risks. If I was paranoid about crashing I'd walk everywhere!

AND they're off again for this years full face half face helmet derby. Ronz had taken an early lead with Bran nipping at his heels. Ace coming up the inside for a quick overtake and defiler heading for the outside...... ah no defiler has fallen back, he is back to fourth.... Bran has done it, he is in the lead, ronz can't believe it... Paul has now entered the race, oh no wait a minute he is playing dirty with quick sarky comments and Faze the umpire/ref has spoken... however the race continues, she hasn't stopped it.... it's anyones for now as the race goes on...

I have a flip - front helmet...
when I am riding slowing in town ..slow traffic etc,,if very hot, I do keep the chin up


but as soon as I start moving a bit, I close it.

for 2 reasons,....
safety and insects flying...

i was toying with an open face for the chop, but nova said no, so i'm now looking at a german coal-scuttle lid
as to the "oh my god hes not wearing any protection" thread i'm sick of it, wear what the hell you like, what do i care-unless of course you have a skill i might need to use in the future-in which case wear two lots of protective gear & dont even venture outdoors-in fact sell the bike
