Hi all again,

Its a bit of a bad bike time for me right now with 2 deaded bikes cry.gif

Anyway......

The gixers rear shock appears to have died a death. On Monday I went out to collect my car from being serviced so went 2 up on the gixer out to the garage. I got my brother to wait in the car park while I checked everything was ready for me. So I came out to give him the nod and the back wheel, tyre and caliper/disc were soaking with oil.

From a bit of prodding about I've decided it must have come from the rear shock reservoir as it certainly didn't smell like engine oil and it was physically puddled on the rim under the reservoir (which it would run to anyway as the wheel is round mad1.gif ). I can only think that the flexi hose or something similar gave up under the the extreme load of 2 knackers on the bike at the same time lbhh.gif

Is the shock repairable? I looked in the scan of the service manual I have and it says no but....... fcrossed.gif

Shocks are re-buildable(?), but it's not something you can do in your shed. You'll have to take/send it to a specialist. Doing this will (likely) be cheaper option than getting a replacement, unless you gofor second-hand.

There's a susspension special with this months' Ride & they have listed MCT Suspension & FTR Suspension, as places they've used.

Yup,, reckon you would be right in assuming a flexi or (more likely) a seal has given up.
As "EnB" has said a rebuild is not something the majority of people could do, so would require taking to a specialist, best idea would be to ring a couple of good bike shops in your area ( independant ones) and find out if they can recommend any one in your area that rebuilds shocks.
Once you find somewhere local,, i'd post a link for them in the useful links section, as it could be useful for other members.
I must find somewhere local that can rebuild shocks as i have a few that could do with rebuilding, mainly just blown seals.

I went to a local place some years ago to get some shocks rebuilt - they could do it alright - but it was cheaper to buy new ones!

After a bit of research I don't think it is the rear shocker as it appears to be a nitrogen filled one! Now I just need to suss out where it did come from??
BikerGran
Maybe it's brake fluid?

Not a lot of help with your problem, But I have always found Hagons to be exelent for any shock related work.
