Hi guys im new here.

I got my bike out of the garage the other day, rode it to the top of the drive then it cut out. Tried to restart it but now there is no power when I turn the key, not even the lights or indicators work now!

Fuses seen ok and the battery has a good voltage. What could it be??

Well it has to be electrical, and if the battery and fuses are ok then it's a loose/failed connection. First thing to check is the earth lead where it connects to the frame - see if it's loose, if it is, take it right off, clean up, put some vaseline on, put it back on and tighten up. If it's not that one then it may be at the ignition switch which is a bit trickier.

Oh, sudden thought, does your bike have an immobiliser? If so it could well be that, and I don't know anything about how to sort them!

+1 for the immobiliser

I'm not in the slightest bit mechanically minded so could be wrong, the same happened to my bike though last year so i got a friend to diconnect it for me and it's worked fine since Oo1.gif

Welcome to the forum by the way and hope it's ge sorted without to much hassle fcrossed.gif

It has an alarm and immobiliser but I have removed them in the process of elimminating them from the equation.

I will have a look at the earth strap but I dont know where that would be? Frame to engine is it??
BikerGran
Battery to frame, thick black lead.

I'm not sure that removing an immobiliser always works to stop it immobilising, if you know what I mean.

Check connections for your ignition switch and the run/off switch on the right handlebar

Oh yeah, forgot about the kill switch, always the most likely and the most embarrassing!

but the killswitch wouldn't knock out all the lights though, would it?

There's a 30 amp fuse on the top of the starter solenoid, if that pops it kills all the electics as it's the first port of call after the battery.

Usual reasons for it going are chaffed wiring somewhere. The RF is famous for doing it round the steering head/fairing bracket area.

Now fixed chaps grin.gif

It was a broken wire going from the ignition barrel to under the fuel tank. It had corroded over time and broken in 2!!

Took some finding but we got there in the end beer.gif

Good job bowdown.gif

I know how hard these things are to find; had similar on a (borrowed) CX500 once.

Excellent. Next stop after checking the main fuse is to prove the continuity through the ignition switch and back to the fuse box and you've cracked it smile1.gif
