Hi all,

Bit of a strange one here. Today went out for a spin as its a beautiful day cool2.gif at least 20 deg C (which is unheard of in Aberdeen). Into town and after hitting every set of lights at red veryangry.gif and the bike (GSX-R750 WP 1993) was getting a touch hot but the fan was coming on and slowly cooling it down. After about 20 mins I noticed the full beam and indicator tell tale lights on, on the dash. So I pulled over and had a play about with the connectors where the switch and loom join and still the same. The indicators and full beam were both on (but not flashing for the indicators).

If I turned the head lights off leaving the side lights on it solved the problem unless I flashed the full beam then the indicators would light up.

As soon as I hit the dual carriage way and the temperature came right down the lights started working again and continue to work now (still cool).

Any ideas folks?

Sounds like a wire might be getting pinched between two bits of expanding metal & creating either a bad earth or a short to the 'idiot' lights.

Somewhere under the tank would be my guess.

Hooray I have sussed out what went wrong with this grin.gif grin.gif

I thought from the start it had to do with the connector blocks on the right hand side of the frame where the handlebar switch gear connects so I stripped back all the trunking and checked all the wires were okay (which they were), then I stripped all the fairings off the RHS to try to see if there was a bad earth but still nothing veryangry.gif but still nothing. So I started pulling fuses to see what stopped it happening and the hi beam fuse being pulled stopped it happening. I then traced the hi/lo beam wires to a wee connector block on the LHS of the frame hidden away behind the side faring. I pulled off cleaned the terminals and sprayed in contact cleaner and hey presto its all sorted grin.gif grin.gif grin.gif grin.gif

I just thought I'd update this to save anyone the sheer amount of buggering about I've had to do over the last 2 days. On a plus side as the side fairings were off I also did an oil change which was needed anyway.

Laters,
Paddy
