After my failed attempt at an Ebay bike (Honda CityFly) on Sunday- I had a look at some others... Came up with this.
It's dirt cheap AND local (easy bis ride), so could be worth a look. But obviously I know nothing.

Cagiva 125 Roadster W reg July 2000 model.
Has been stolen and recovered. Good runner, 8338 miles from new.
One previous owner.
Damage is only ignion switch, one rear indicator missing, one front indicator lens broken and the tail light lens is broken.
Can deliver at extra cost to buyer.
Sounds like to me that it's been his kid's bike- some local tosspot had nicked it for a mid-morning joyride and they found it in whatever state it was left in (if this guy's to be trusted then it's all superficial so even I can fix it).
Should I risk bidding? It's been up for a couple of days and had no interest... I see a Cheap&New bike. But (If it's in a sh!t state) what are parts like to get- it's not a Honda obviously so I can't just swap parts over but for parts like the Ignition Lock I'll need an official Cagiva dealer.

So that'll be a no then?

But if the price stays where it is I could get it for bugger all and Part-Ex it for a fair amount off the CG.
Only problem is that I can't get there to look at it so I'll have to take his word for it as to it's running condition.
Sould like a viable plan or just a silly idea?

UBG says "careful inspection required" and 400squids for condition 3. but when derestricted has 26 bhp - which is nearly as much as the 125 Tuono. !!
From personal experience parts are not easy to get, (mines not a Roadster though) but possible to find them on a german website. Uk importer is Three Cross m/c in Dorset (somewhere near Ringwood/Verwood as I recall)

I've had a hunt on Google for the Specs on the thing... it's only a blooming 2Smoke!!
There's Nothing WRONG with them but I'd rather start off with a 4 to get my feet with mechanical/maintanance stuff (I heard they need a fair bit of TLC).
Part's shouldn't be too hard to get (Mate of Katy knows of a place in Newcastle) but I have no idea of the £££ involved for the things.
But it's all down to the price I can buy it for I suppose.

two strokes are a doddle to work on, less moving parts you see, no cams, no valves to speak of, the only thing to watch for really is the plug fouling carry a wire brush and plug socket with you problem solved, oh and don't forget to keep the oil tank filled.

I remember bumping into the bloke I sold my old RS125 to. There was a gauge on the sidepanel to tell you how much was in there. It was bone dry.

I even bought him bottle...

TBH - if i had to have a 125 id rather have a smoking stroker any day. Lot more poky and from experience you open up the engine and wonder where all the bits are! Theres bugger all in there!

Wicked, cheers fellas (and laydees

)
I'm trying to get hold of the bloke to arrange a viewing but not heard back yet... my local friendly DevilPaint has kindly offered to have a butchers if he can get there (Hartlepool) but nothing has come back from the seller yet.
Still at £225 with nobody bidding so it looks like I'm in with a damn good chance.

a bit of a rip off on the pseudo v-max styling there, note the scoops and seat, but for£225notes you can't moan,
one question that does need asking though, if it's been stolen recovered, was it seized at all, remember the oil tank we mentioned earlier? Well the perps who nicked it won't have given a s**t if it was allowed to run dry. seized two stroke generally = oval piston and that's re-bore country. last time i hade a 2 stroke re-bored it cost me 80 notes for the piston kit and machining and that was 14 years ago.
like i said 2 strokes are a doddle to work on but i'm assuming you just wanna hop on and go?

You assume correctly Ima, but some basic mechanical fiddling wouldn't go amiss- I think I should get used to Oil and cleaning Sparks first, that's why I'm happy that DP has offered his services... should the guy get back to me.
The guy selling has NO feedback rating- that makes me nervous (Ok- everyone has to start somewhere). I'm going to send another Email to the guy tonight saying that unless we can arrange a viewing then I won't be bidding... and if nobody else wants it either- he's stuck with a bike.
I'll word it nicely of course.

We've been to see the bike and the official DevilPaint rating is.........
Two Gloves Up!!

The light's are broken but that's all cosmetic and can be fixed in an afternoon- the only point of concern is the Ignition, but that's simple enough to do as well, apparently.
All that remains now is to stick my bid in and hope I'm competing against people with no cash!
So I'll be able to tell you on Sunday if I'm mobile or not.

A Big cheers to D.P for helping me out today- I owes ya

P.S- Ima... Should I get it, you might have some work chucked your way matey boy, you can see there the old decal's were... would be nice to have a focus point on the body work.

its a nice bike, starts n runs well, 8000 on the clock, proper uk version not grey import-the chalk auction no was still visible on the seat

, but if you can get it for what we said UWL its an ideal learner.
theres enough clever peeps on here to help out with the ignition etc, but a bus ride to hunters in the town should get you going-i'll make some calls tomorrow, but a pattern rear light & indicators together with a genuine ignition switch is all it needs-check the fuel cap lock though-you might need a proper key for it-which the prev owner on the v5 might help you with.
HAPPY BIDDING-& next time you get on the back of a 180mph bike in winter-MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A PAIR OF GLOVES YOU MUPPET.
i was nice to him guys honest, even if he didnt want the Geordie hoards knowing where he lived................

If it was me uwl and i really wanted it i'd slap a big bid in say 400 notes that way your in with a fighting chance of getting it don't mince about trying to out bid folks, set yourself a limit you can afford and then bung it all on and let proxy bidding take care of it for you, that way you will remain high bidder till someone reaches your limit . if it goes over se la vie.
Anth
Feb 28 2004, 08:32 PM
Yeah- I've got an upper limit of
secret amount, but I prefer to Snipe Bid at the last minute.
I just hope we don't have a snow related power cut at the fatel moment.
I've been putting small bids in along the way, and been matched blow for blow along the way... but that's just the Jab- I'll be throwing the Knockout Blow soon :Rocky:
It's a shame nobody tought me to box

Feb 29 2004, 07:49 PM

Nice ikkle motor though- He's gonna be one chuffed bunny.

NEW BIKE ALERT There's a CB125 for sale on Ebay... looks great (for a bloddy old thing).
I'll probably bid or it if there's no interest.
I Emailed him asking if it's always used and stuff... here's what he said!

Hi Anth.
On the log book it says CB 125T , engine capacity 124
first registered 12. 79.
I have owned the bike since new, but only run it on fine days, and it was
laid up for several years due to circumstances. I put it on the road two
years ago and used it just a handful of times. The reason for selling, is I
need the space, my age, and the wife hates bikes.
About the cost of delivery I would have know idea.
Hope this helps, if you want to know anything else please E Mail.
If this is true then it could be a bargin (the CB's are traditionaly better than the CG's arnt they?)
