Well, today I have done the unthinkable and dclared the bike SORN cry.gif

Its not because it doesn't work, but I rarely get to ride it so I figure I can save some money by taxing it for 6mths during the nice weather and declaring it SORN for the winter eyebrow.gif

My question is this: The MOT ran out in November (bike hasn't been ridden since) and I know that you can ride to a testing station without a valid MOT, but now when the bike is going to go back on the road it will not have tax either.

Where do I stand if pulled as I can't get a tax disc without an MOT?

You have to insure, then tax, then MOT.

I always thought that you can ride/drive to a pre-booked MOT as long as you have insurance, you cannot get tax until the vehicle is MOTed any way. I have always done this in the past and never had a problem. So I would say its: Verify insurance
Book the MOT
When passed tax the bike.

you are allowed to ride the bike to an MOT station & back without tax or MOT. you SHOULD have it pre booked for an mot & if it fails you can then ride it home again.
a friend once travelled to london & bought a classic car, booked it in for an MOT in newcastle, insured it & drove it home-he got stopped on the way & was reluctantly let on his way, as he wasnt breaking the law, stretching it ? most likely. i think these days it a station within reasnoble distance.

That's what I tought but wanted to make sure. Insurance will still be in place anyway.

Yep - that's basically what I do with the Ducati - it's only taxed 6 months of the year, so I have to run it up to the MOT centre without a tax. So long as it's booked (within, as DP says, a reasonable distance), and the police can call to verify that, you're clear.

What you need to make sure of is that when you book the MOT they take the reg no of the bike - that proves it's the one you're riding!

And it should be the nearest - or very near anyway.
