Clearly the more sociable amongst us enjoy a good blat about the countryside - frightening tourists, wildlife, OAPs and discovering the joys of swooping round a corner pretending to be Foggy or some other demi-god. We then obviously enjoy a good brew and a fag at a suitable meeting spot, where amongst other things we can pose and preen purselves in front of our spanking new ZZXXYY1200RRX, sunbathe on the grass and blag on endlessly about how fast it will go - but never, ever under any circumstances reveal that it scares us witless, and if truth be told it's way more than we can handle. We also struggle to hide our embarassement later when we found we've parked the bike front wheel first against the kerb on a slight downhill slope and find we have to push the damn thing backwards.......

However, I digress. I now find myself amonst the marras of W Cumbria moving from the East and further from my favourite Saturday/Sunday haunts of Hawes/Devil's Bridge and wondered whether anyone out there knows of any more such spots in the area - Cumbria/N Yorks/Lancashire/Borders. Obviously fundamental requirements are a brew shack and somewhere half pleasant to recover the nerves with a smoke.

Cheers

I've no idea about that neck of the neck but if you ever come north, the green welly at Tyndrum is usually full of bikers from all over. We do seem to have a distinct lack of quality biker meeting places up here. There's plenty of good places for a cuppa, which might be why the bikes seem to be spread out..

Being a marra from West Cumbria I should be able to help.

But unfortunately I've not lived there for 20 years and didn't have a bike when I did so I'm afraid I can't.

Just full loop it m8. Head up to hartside from Penrith side, down to Alston then out to Middleton & teesdale, then head back to hawes via brough. Cheers MAlly cool2.gif

anywhere where the coffee is hot

what is wrong with admitting it ive had 2 bikes that scared the sh!t outa me & how fast they went was nothing to do with it

*******************************************************

and if truth be told it's way more than we can handle.
*************************************************************

if the bike is more than you can handle then get rid of it before you kill yourself or someone else & get a bike you can handle.

seems a bit odd up there in the north west - my brother lives near Bolton and has only found one bikers meet - shame but they all appeared to be above talking to a stranger.... ......... the north is supposed to be friendly verysad.gif

on the other matter - amazin how many with the matching leathers and posh boots admit to the thing being too much for them. Well they admit it to me - but I prolly remind them of their auntie mad1.gif

oh BTW before anyone thinks I'm being "regionalist"- I'm a northener now living in the south

Thanks for all of this - I do know of the Alston route - most densely populated by Plod armed with all manner of speed monitoring devices so beware. Naturally they are never seen in the villages where it may be construed that it is somewhat dangerous to blat through them at over 30, especially when kids are out playing. Hoooo Nooo that makes far too much sense. Much more lucrative to have them lurk at the foot of a long, straight downhill where there is little danger and nab anyone going a tad over 60. Got to fund our retirement somehow sonny.

Thanks also to Womble for your somewhat self-righteous tirade. In case you missed it, it was a bit of a dig a plastic missile riders, to which I may add, as having owned a variety of GS's, XJ's old Brits and various other old nails which struggled to reach 70 downhill, exclude me from being a Foggy replica. Mind, now owing a ZZR11 means I can at least feign being in the 20th Century at least.

Bolton - a fine spot - my home town. Excellent meet at Rivington to the North, but do beware the old farts on BSA's who will insuist their A65 is far superior to the latest from the land of the Rising Sun. This despite the lake of oil under the crankcase, the awful electrics, the horrendous reliability, the ridiculous price, the speed of a pregnant slug and the handling of a whale... I could go on but life is too short....

ZZR11? Is that what we call the ZX-11? Full fairing model? A friend owns one and with some front and rear suspension mods on his, he's able to go quite fast thru the twisties. He's a very good rider also, but it still amazes me what that bike will do with some suspension work. He's left it completely stock other than the fork internals and rear shock. It shows where money put in the places the bike needs it, is the best money invested.
