Hi
I am a newbie so Hello all ..
Now to my Problem....
My lil bro brought a 50 cc(suzuki Katana) bike and rode it home(10 miles or so) and it ran great with no problems.
Then the next day we got it out to do all the electrics and bodykit, but decided to give it a bit of a spin first and noticed there was a greyish(very cloudy) smoke coming out the exhaust, and i put my hand over it
and noticed there is also a very runny oil coming out with it.
I am more of an electrics man and don't like touching engines unless needs be, But as i said it was running great so we thought there was not a prob with the engine !!
What i am after is abit of guidance in relation to what it might be/what i should check!
Or is the likely problem something i should just check into a garage to get looked at, and is it an expensive job, as if it is not sure its worth getting done as we only paid a couple of hundred for the bike as he just turned 16.
The guy filled it up with 2 stroke and petrol also before we left.
Thanks in advance for any help people ! fcrossed.gif

Could it just be the two-stroke oil that is coming out the exhaust? If so that is OK as that is what is meant to happen. If it is excessive might be he put too much two stroke oil in.

Oil and filter change - see if that helps, then take it from there

Not sure that a 2-stroke takes oil & filter, Faze - the oil goes in the fuel, and it lubricates the engine prior to combustion. Never owned a stroker, so I could well be wrong.

First thing I'd try is popping the spark plug out and cleaning it - see if it runs better after that, and see if the problem recurs.

In that case I shut up lbhh.gif

A 2-stroke will always smoke as it's designed to burn the oil which is added to the fuel ("total loss lubrication") - and it may well have a bit of oil coming out as well until it's fully warmed up which it won't be till it's ridden a bit.

2-stroke bikes do have oil that needs changing in the gearbox, but I have no idea about scooters.

And *that's* the bit I wasn't sure about smile1.gif
Don't imagine gearbox oil would end up running into the engine on a 2-stroke, though. Again, I could be talking crap smile1.gif

I don't know this model but you can usually adjust the oil pump on two strokes. Have a look in a Haynes manual or the owners handbook if you've got one.
On some of my past two strokes adjusting the pump was very simple and quick.

Can do if the crank seal has gone, the changes in pressure in the crankcase can suck the gearbox oil through the seal so it's burnt with the normal fuel mix. Used to happen regularly on old Suzuki T500s, Kettles etc specially if they'd been stood for long periods. Quickly leads to a mashed gearbox.

Dunno about the modern scoots though but I'd be checking every oil level carefully.

Could be the pump is set a bit rich as said, or it could be 'normal', it needs an experienced two-stroker to have a butcher's.

Does it run on a premix of petrol an oil, or is the oil in a seperate tank?

If it's premix, you need to have the correct mix in the tank. If it has a seperate reservoir for oil then you need to check the adjustment of the oil pump.

Either way, you need a manuel to tell you what's right.
