Something from Ebay http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...5&category=9806

From the sounds of it- it's the "new" CG (although it looks like the 1980something styling) but with a different name on the side- what a load of crap!!

But the price looks right however... and it's local eyebrow.gif

While I'd normaly jump at the chance- I think I'll pass.

Your thoughts on this "amazing deal"?
messymuppet
you see a lot of hongdou bikes around, on ebay etc.! they've been around for a while
looks exactly the same as the old bike, but they've still been bringing them out for a while!

to be honest I don't know what's so special about the new cg anyways, as they've still been bringing out new ones of the old styling!

...to be honest I don't know what's so special about the new cg anyways, as they've still been bringing out new ones of the old styling!

What's great? Have you SEEN the new CG?

Ok- it's still the underpowered pony it's always been, but the styling has been re-vamped so it looks more like the new CB250/CB500.
It's got better electrics (apparently), fully electric starter and the most important of all- they sorted out the brakes!!
Apparently the older CG's had problem because they had drum brakes front and rear- It's now got disc brakes at the front.

But the main reason I want the new one REALLY bad is because it looks better- pure vanity saint2.gif

You can't tell me that you'd rather have that "classic" design that dates back from who-knows-when over the sleek, sharp curves of my new baby?

You can tell I'm a bit mad can't you? mad1.gif
messymuppet
i'd rather have the older, cheaper bike now, + not mind too much if I crash it or it gets stolen

than wait another couple of months and pay out tons for a brand new bike, + be gutted if anything happens to it!

I do prefer the styling on the new one, BUT, i'm not gonna get my perfect bike as a first bike! So would rather pay less, rag around on an old one for a while + not worry to much when/if I drop it + save the money i've saved for a nice, bigger bike, when ready for a bigger bike/ passed test

+ new bikes lose so much money the second you wheel them out of the showroom!

brakes, yeah the drum brakes aren't great!! but they are adequate + u can't go very fast on a cg anyways
Anth
Yeah- I know. But I'm a stubburn git and very set on getting the new one.

If (sorry- WHEN) I have a massive spill, I'll have to learn humility the hard way.
messymuppet
fair enough, i won't bother arguin, cos not worth the energy typiin if u're a stubborn git + not going to listen anyways! mad1.gif

plus u've prob heard it all before, a million times

so why then are you lookin at the hongdou? as it's obvious from the pic that it's the old styling!!!!
Anth
It was looking for a small screen from the 2002version of CG.
Sometimes it's in the listing for whole bikes but the seller is willing to sell it seperatly.

The listing was saying it was brand new so i decided to take a look without checking the little picture- then I saw the old design and thought to myself "Who is this guy trying to kid- this isn't the new version!! veryangry.gif "

looks like a bloody bargain to me an 04 reg bike for £995.
lets be honest here how long are you going to keep it for? a year, 2 max?
if it gets you mobile who cares?
ZOMB!E
Im struggling here folks. I cant see where the bloke claimed it was the new style version. he says its new 04 reg and it is. Im puzzled.

I think its a bargain too!
messymuppet
i was struggling with that too!!
confused at the topic title!!!

cos he says it's new, which it is

+ hongdou, well it's the just the copy of the honda
pugwash
yer but it's a limited addition they'll only make 3 million more like it wwww.gif
Anth
I think I'll just hide in the corner and cower for a while cry.gif

Get it bought and stop buggering about. wwww.gif
Anth
Nah- I think I'll wait till the new 04 CG comes out, The Hongdou looks horrid- massive clocks, nasty square lights and it's available in any colour I like, as long as it's red. (I'm a blue person)

Plus if anything goes wrong with the Updated CG my local bike shop is only 1/2hour run away.

Plus the bloke at the shop is chucking in a load of freebies grin.gif

What started all this anyway?? Oh yeah

Honda (Hongdou) CG 125 Motorbike, New 04 Reg,
Brand New Fully Assembled, Checked and Tested

I just thought that it was the Brand New 04 Reg CG125 (like the one I've been blabering on about for the best part of 6months).

Looks like a good buy tho.

Looks to me like this bloke bought a job lot off a dealer who was probably closing down. Pre-registered them and is now trying to shift them with minimum losses. I'd probably be a bit dubious about the warranty 6 months down the line.

But a brand new 125 for under a grand? I'd snap his hand off and take my chances. They are pretty reliable and don't need a degree in rocket science to fix. Two years on it's going to be worth 3/4s of nowt but sling it in the back of the shed as a spare.
Anth
I know I'll not be using it much in a couple of years buy Katy's making noises abut when I pass my Pt2 and get a larger bike- She'll take the CG of my hands as a runabout and she probably won't be getting anything larger afterwards (she drives already).

And it's the warrenty I'm a bit concerned about- it might not take a degree in astro-mechanics to fix but I can just about change the oil- let alone do the stuff that you lot talk about.

It's not far though- maybe a local person with connections to a riding school may be able to take it off his hands... AHEM... D.P?

wouldnt touch it with the wrong end of a sh!tty stick m8

its a chinese copy of a honda-made to chinese standards-oh it'll be ok for a few months-then fall apart slowly around you.

it was my misfortune to have to work with some similar bikes a while ago-nothing but trouble-spent more time trying to get the buggers to go than actually teaching with them.

i would be your usual stubborn self, wait for the new cg-its essentially a restyled old cg-but 30 years on it must have been designed right in the 1st place.
incidentally, you mentioned the disc on the new one-i think you'll find its no more than a design exercise than anything else-a drum on a ickle bike is more than adequate.
messymuppet
have a look at this i've found UWL
it's mmmmm lovely, well i think so anyways + it's started with no reserve, 2003 model + he'll deliver anywhere in the country for 80 quid!
it's drum brake rear and disc brake front, tho as dp says, it's not a prob
+ check out that exhaust!

+ u could have it now, rather than waiting!!!

bowdown.gif Cheers D.P

Muppet- Your amazing!! smile1.gif

I looked at the CityFly last summer- when I re-ignited my biking lust... looks great and apparently ride amazing too.

That would be my second choice- but only just!

I'll be keeping an eye on it and if it's still at a decent price on sunday then I (might) bid for it. eyebrow.gif

But I'm always wary about Ebay (and other online stuff)- but this "could" be worth taking a chance on.

But that clock has GOT to be changed... it looks to plain. Easy to read.. yes but it's so dull.
Anth
But I'd want a decent opinion about it- maybe someone to take a shufty and make sure it's all kosher?

Now who can I bother that lives above the border???

I wonder???

Hmm???

I couldn't ask HIM- could I???
bikerdave
Perth, that's the East coast and I'm just about to start 5x12hr shifts or I'd have had a look. verysad.gif

Beg to differ! My 100 had drum brake at the front and it was feckin dangerous! Had to use both brakes AND the gears to get it to slow down once it was flying.
Anth
It's cool Dave- was only being daft, I didn't really expect you to travel all the way over there just for that smile1.gif

Drum brakes were good back in the day but now, even with small sized bikes, you need a decent amount of stopping power- and I'll mostly be doing duel carriageway riding too and from Uni/Work so some decent anchors are a must.

They would be OK if I was riding a scooter though sick.gif
Ace
UWL... flossieadams had a city fly for quite a while, i'll see if i can get her online to give you some advice on it and ownership of it.
Anth
flossieadams? name doesn't ring a bell- must have been a bit before my time.

That'll be great Ravin'- cheers beer.gif
messymuppet
Flossieadams has only posted a few times, so you may not have seen her!
I was speaking to her last night about the cityfly in the pub!
she said it was a great bike, lots of fun, much more fun than a cg

she also had a bit of a problem because it is quite tall, and struggled before someone suggested lowering the shocks

anyways, i'm sure if you pm or email her she should be able to tell you a bit more!
Anth
Just PM'd her- cheers for that smile1.gif
I won't be bidding till sunday night anyway but I emailed the guy to see if (in the unlikely event that I win) he can take a deposit of £x and I get the rest to him a bit later- will need to arrange a short term loan to pay the remainder off and get the bits (helmet, jacket, CBT, insurance .... )

He seems willing to do that smile1.gif Looks like things may be looking up :big cheesy grin:

fcrossed.gif Good luck hun fcrossed.gif
Anth
Well- Bidding has got to £920.

I think that if it goes over £1200 by the time bidding closes on Sunday then I won't be bidding for it.
Here's hoping people start to feel a bit skint fcrossed.gif
Gislaine
good luck UWL

that would be the red Kangda i think, but forgive me madame, i wasnt present at your CBT(mores the pity)

India, China and Indonesia are full of em so they must be doing something right

had to laff at the ISO9001 approved bit tho, head office in Tokyo is but I bet my grubby shorts thier factory in China isnt as 9001 includes design and that lot havent designed feck all since the chopsticks 4000 years ago, or it is with a bolt on cert from them upstairs lbhh.gif

by the way they wheely like feck if you get the weight right in second gear wwww.gif
devilpaint
the 125 has this really bad gear linkage & most of the students struggled with it. to be fair, it was deffo past its best when i started working there.
but as a day to day cbt bike-no way.
Anth
Going, Going- GONE!!

But not to me I'm afraid.
Apparently Ebay likes to have the comma's put in the amount you bid- so instead of putting 1,155.00 I put 1155.00.

My bid wasn't acepted and so I didn't win sad1.gif

Nevermind- more time to save for CG smile1.gif

But they don't have sh!te weather and crappy road gritters for half the year- plus I don't think that they are allowed to ride anything over 400cc (Not totaly sure about that- could be wrong).
