Im preparing my flabber to be well and truly ghasted when the estimate comes back. The swingarm containing the final drive has to be replaced and the engines gotta come out to remove the remains of the shattered coolant pump from the fluid channels and to verify/sort out the seizure. those two things alone will be horrendous i reckon.

I reckon so mate! thing is though that if didnt have insurance or bought this as a porject or something it could be repaired for a helluva lot less than the estimate is going to be. the fork leg for instance is just scratched and so are a lot of the panels. Being that it was only about seven weeks old when it got hit the assessor said anything thats damaged or even marked gets replaced with a new part. He even put the RFL holder ( 99p!). No wonder so many bikes get written off.

Can you still buy these back, when you get your claim settled?

I remember an article a while ago, stating that insurance companies needed to look at replacing parts in a more cost effective way. These included repairing parts, rather then replacing them and replacing exhausts and stuff with aftermarket parts instead of OEM stuff. No wonder bikes are getting written off.

It depends what category write off it is as to whether you can buy it back, i have bought two of mine back. Both of them were non viable repairs on a cat c write of, this type of cat c is not recorded as a write off. There are two cat c catagories non-viable and the other doesn't entitle you to put it back on road.

Both times i had to ask them if i could buy it back they didn't offer, so as you don't appear to have any structual (for want of a beter word) damage you might be able to persuade them. Both times i paid about 10 or 11% of the payout price.
