Guys,

I am new to this board, and really hope that the knowledgable among you can help.

My wife is taking her Direct Access (Part 2 test on Fri..fingers crossed). I bought her a 1995 Kawasaki KH125 to practice on. Nice little bike etc, but lately she has not been able to take it out for more than 5 mins without it breaking down. When cold it will start fine and run, but then after about 5 mins cut out. No amount of kickstart will coax it into life, and the engine floods. I have replaced the plug, started fine, then the same.
Also and more worrying is that petrol floods out of the overflow hole in the cover by the bottom of the carb if the engine is not running and the tap is not in the off position.

I have a Blade which i maintain myself and am not overly daft when it comes to mechanics, but this has really got me scratchin my head...

Any ideas

Hi StevePJ and welcome to the forum.

It sounds like you have a sticking float, or the float hights are set wrong. This will cause the engine to flood and petrol to leak from the over flow. It might run ok when it is cold as it will need more fuel any way, but as soon as it warms up it will flood out.

Hope this helps.

Ace.

Nod nod what Ravinmadrider said, also might be worth putting in an inline filter on the line to the carb as the old tank may have rust/debris in it that might have caused your sticky float.

If the filter clags up fast its time to take the tank off and flush it out. smile1.gif

Welcome aboard mate!

the others beat me to it! Deffo sounds like stuck float or dodge float height problem.

I had the same prob with cb try giving the float bowl a whack with the plastic end of a screwdriver, if it's debris this usually will knock it loose if the problem comes back then it's prolly tea leaves in the tank, like the rest of the guys have said get an inline filter.HTH

Well, took it apart las night. Took about 5 minutes to get it out and another 15 to clear all the crap out. Put it back together then could i get it to fire............

Forgot to put the HT lead back onto the plug Doh....

Seems to be running fine now.

If any of you guys are ever in Slough let me know cos i owe you a beer...

We've all been there - first time I did serious work on the GT, replacing the carb diaphragms - took it for a test ride and it died halfway round the estate - I'd put the fuel pipe back on but forgot the vacuum pipe that makes the fuel tap work....

youd never catch me doing that........................... sniffle.gif Oo1.gif

or opening the fuel tap on a honda without the pipe connected allowing about half a gallon of petrol to spill onto the workshop floor before being ignited by a calor gas heater.
perish the thought that i would be mind numbingly stupid enough to do that,

What?

Oh apparently i would. blush21.gif
