right, in about....... 8 hours i am going to pick up my NSR and i dont know the first thing about tires.

Im unsure about the state of the tires but i think they have a nice amount of tread left, but that wont take too long to get rid of lbhh.gif

I was wondering, what does everyone else use for there tires? e.g brands and types

can someone help me.

Im looking for something that is quite grippy but doesnt take a lot of warming up to grip well, but that i dont have to get new ones every other week, (will be doing at least 100+ miles a week so need a bit of endurance) but that in the same time, are a bit forgiving, so if they start to loose grip i can rein it in before sliding into a bush/kerb.

not track type tires cos they dont work too well on the road (reading ride or bike told me that, cant remember which one)

i dont really want cheapo ones but not to cost the earth either.

i know it might be a lot to ask for tires, but i have no idea really whats good or not.

any help would be well recieved.

we all have our fav tyre choice-if the bike has good tread then learn to ride it &see how you go .

125 tyres wont wear out that quickly as you dont have as much weight or power to fart about with.
i prefer bridgestone (021) on my ninja-last me about 4000 on the rear, but i have a teeny-weeny bit more horsepower to play with.
ManicMushroom
teeny weeny bit more, lol, if its a zx6r its like 100 more bhp

im guessing bridgestone and dunlop do tires for the 125, but can i get the majoraty of tires for it? or only a few.

Have a look at these people they do tyres for most bikes http://stores.ebay.co.uk/RoundAndBlack

When I bought my Divvie it had Bridgestone BT45s on it (I think). When I came to replace the tyres I went with Avons as they were cheaper. I never really felt right on them, they slipped a lot in the rain and I never felt as safe. When they both got a puncture I replaced them with Bridgestones again and my confidence came back.

Whether this was down to the tyres I dunno, but I don't worry about my tyres anymore, so will stick with Bridgestones for the Divvie.

I am not a bit rich... eyebrow.gif laughcont.gif laughcont.gif

Perks of the job ya know. When I am on the bridge there's about 40 windas to look out of, and none of them crash! lbhh.gif

As for tyres. I have just put new Avon Viper shoes on my bike. They seem ok, fairly grippy in the dry and wet. You have to take a "risk" with new tyres if you have never tried them before, go on the recommendation of your peers, magazines, others who have the same bike or similar, or even just on what your pocket can stretch to.

My bike is now on its third rear tyre in 11000 miles... reason? The rear squared off and was nearly bald after 8000 miles made it round the UK and to the Farmyard '07 on it though, replaced it with a bridgestone, the front was still the original manufacturers fit. All was fine for about another 2500 miles then the handling started to suffer a little round fast corners. Looked over the rest of the bike and the only thing I could think of was mis-matched tyres at certain speeds. So replaced both with the vipers and all is well with the world once again. wwww.gif

I had BT45's on my Goose and have them on the ER-5. I think they're good tyres. Grippy enough as well as lasting a long time.

As I use my cbr600 for work everyday, and I am on a tight budget, I needed a tyre that was cheap, had a balance of perfomance and life expectancy, not to mention it needs to have lots of grip through winter in the rain and snow.

I was offered a new set of maxxis supermaxx tyres for £110 with free fitting!

wow what a tyre!! it has loads of grip in the dry and the wet, you name it it grips better than any year round tyre that I have ever had. In the last 15 months on this set of tyres I have covered 12000 miles and I have to change the rear now. Guess what tyre I am having?

I was offered the maxxis sports tyre for the same price, but as I need them to last through winter I have opted for the touring tyre instead. I do wonder though how much grip the sports tyres have if the touring tyres are sooooo good.

Two magazine recommend them as one of the best sports tyres available so they cant be that bad and they are cheap too!

Hope this helps someone when choosing their next set of tyres buttrock.gif

I know this is a bit of an old thread now but does anyone have any update on what they think of Maxiss?

The reason I ask is that I have been calling round for quotes over the last couple of days and most places seemed to shudder when I asked for a Maxiss quote and send they wouldn't touch them.

Personally I had Bridgsstone BT021 I think as an original fit when I got my R6. Because I was doing silly mileages I decided I wanted more of a touring tyre and then fitted Conti road Attacks. Always found them to be a good tyre and got plenty of mile without them squaring off too badly.

The RF I have just got has the Sportmaxx on it and considering their worn state I didn't think the bike felt to bad but having read quite a few reviews I'm opting for a pair of Michelin Pilot Road 2's

I have just fitted new BT023's, only done 25miles on them so far.

Before that I had the BT021's and they were great, I got 7000miles out of them.

I have to say the BT023's feel better already and even though they are not scrubed in I can feel there is better grip already.

And I've heard of people getting 11000miles out of the Bt023's.

I got my BT023's for £220.00 supplied and fitted. So long as I took the wheels off.

I think theres another thread under bike chat about tyres, it's called 'best place to buy tyres' or something similar.

Only done about 5 miles on them at the minute so can't really comment on them yet.
