Currently tidying up the rear of my lovely SV, by removing the entire rear mudguard. Couple of questions for you legal (sort of ) bods.

Am I right in thinking I must have a red reflector on the rear of the bike, does it matter where it is? (can I put it on the corner of the numberplate, or on the top box??)

2nd Number plates have to be illuminated at night... any regulations as to how -- from below (dont see a problem with that) or can I do it from the tail light... directly above, red and always on...

Lastly any laws about indicators...size position etc???

Its looking good now... only took me 4 hours to make the mounting bracket!!!

good sites those Ian.
MM bear in mind if you put those piddling little indicators on you are leaving yourself wide open to the oft said phrase "sorry m8 i didnt see you"-most car drivers aren't looking for you anyway. you can buy ready made kits to tidy up the back end of your new pride & joy & if you're dumping the rear guard, then you need a hugger-& the no plate has to be white light m8.
just my opinion of course, but wont it look a bit daft all "bare essentials" at the back with a ruddy great top box stuck on it?

Altho those sites are good guidelines. the MOT one is 2 years out of date and alot of revisions have been made since...

i was going to do the same to my sv and ask a copper . the numberplate should be lit with a white light . You "could" get nicked if it wasnt but like most thing it depends if it combined with noisy exhaust, dark visors, pulling wheelies etc!

mot rules and construction rules vary wildly and has been subject to alot of debate. for example you dont need a chainguard for a bike to pass a MOT but if you got pulled over you could get done for it! The same currently goes for small numberplates, currently they are not part of the MOT.

Altho.... motorcycle emissions and numberplates will soon become part of the motorcycle MOT altho ive not been given a date yet.
