Hi All,

after4 a recent outing with the Soho Massivehttp://www.sv650.org/ I am hooked on buying a Renegade can for my SV. I have had lots of really good comments on the company, and the prices are good, but I have one question ..... how loud are they in terms of neighbours/ police etc??? am I going to have to push my bike 100 yrs down the road before starting, or am I going to have to cruise past any bobbies with the engine off to keep people happy??

I know that Renegade are currently doing a buy two for one offer (one road legal and one race for the same price, but I cannot really see the point as I will still have the original legal OE can). If I only go for the race can I get an additional 15% off.

Comments??

yes they are loud on the sv. Personallyt I think they sound great but if your neighbour is a six foot five ex wrestler with shaved head and hands that could dig the road then maybe pushing it up the road in the morning wouldnt be such a bad idea!

In reallity a bike is no louder than a car when idling - its people who start them up at five in the morning and then rev them repeatedly that piss people off.

If you like em get em mate!

they sound nice.. ouuu do they sound nice! grin.gif

get em get em get em!
GING
Yeh get em,nothing sounds better than a twin with cans.Just keep the revs low in the morning and if the nieghbours dont like it feck em. bum.gif

Well it looks like the Renegade offer was only for Christmas (although they might extend) and worse apon worse, When I checked with Carol Nash (My Insurance lot) They will NOT insure a bike with a non road legal exhaust... I'm I just being thick here or is this normal?

Current Prices.... Renegade.. £300 S/S
Carbon Can Company.... £245 C/F

Some companies will insure you if you modify your bike and some wont.
If you fit a non road legal can it's just that, non road legal, a bored policeman could nick you.
When you change your can you may need to have your carbs tuned to suit the can.
I've heard good things about quill exhausts, apparently on some there's a bolt you remove to switch between race and road legal and on other road legal systems they sound normal until a certain amount of revs and then get very throaty when you open up.

it makes me laugh. Why should a loud exhaust would make any difference if a car pulled out in front of you or someone ran into the back of you. from an insurance point of view it seems abit odd to me. yeah ok a exhaust might add 3 or 4 bhp if your lucky but unless your on a race track you probably wont notice it

most people fit aftermarket cans because lets face it, they sound better! and in my opinion make you safer cos people can hear you coming!

they have basically said if its performance enhancing then poss. a few quid increase. But if its not road legal they we cannot insure you.

Loud pipes can prevent accidents.... ! i have said it before and i stick to it. I drive my car in town and almost always hear bikes with aftermarket cans before they get up to me, and that is from behind.

I also ride in a group very often, we have a VN1500 with straight through pipes ( a bit too loud), a bandit 600 with a micron a VTR1000 firestorm with twin microns and i know where they are just by the sound.

Bikes are so heavily silenced these days that you are lucky if you can hear it along side.

Besides, you cant beat the sound of a nice can on 2 or 4 cylinders.

Heard the micron on an SV650 and it sounded nice, Scorpion sound gert lush on any bike, i am fitting a four into two on my cb900 and it wil have twin scorpion's on it swivel.gif .

As for the Neighbours, i value my safety, and my bike more than them. not that i would go out of my way to be annoying but hey... do i complain about their sons base box, or their lawn mower at 8 am on a sunday ( well i do actualy but from under my pillow) for half an hour at a time!

Sorry, i have deviated from the origional topic, honestly i justGeT SooOO PassIonAte abOut things SOME TIMES......!!!!!

Renagade, the last bike i heard a set of arenagades on was an FJ1200, it sounded real nice but also reasonably quiet, but that was a four cylinder, diferent sound totaly with the twin i would think.

Go for it MM, get the special offer then bang one on ebay and claw some revenue back devil1.gif .

Well just booked the Bike in for its 1st service and happened to mention my exhaust hunt to the Guys at the Garage and its looking good for a micron... good value... around £200 for S/S, marked road legal with a removable baffle wwww.gif Might go the extra hog for Carbon... around £300....

any disadvantages of using carbon fibre???

It more expensive and if you drop it, you have to pay more to get it replaced. On the road a couple of ounces of difference isn't going to be visable, so it comes down to looks. That's really all you're paying for at the end of the day.

I had a road legal micron on my last Zed and it was as loud as feck! Louder even than the micron race can! If Sirvix resurfaces he can back this up coz he bought it off me!
i didnt care what the neighbours thought - well, not true i spose, i DID care but I never revved the sh!te off it outside the house ( except in the middle of the afternoon sometimes!) and TBH i get annoyed mostly about my next door neighbours mate who picks him up in the morning everyday at half five in a diesel van that he sits outside with the engine running for twenty minutes or so waiting for me neighbour. Gets right on my teets i can tell ya. then theres people trying for ages to start their cars at six or seven. Poxy nuisance. So on the face of it a bit of rumble from some fruity can is par for the course for this lot - sod em!

If i ever got called out for work though at silly o'clock in the morning i would push the bike up the road and fire it up.. it was still outside someone's house but at least it wasnt the people i had to see everyday!

get the road legal renegades - theyre fruity as you like! road legal quill or micron - they're all louder than the race cans anyway!

For the record, the loudest bike i ever have heard was a trx850 with twin renegades and that just shook the earth and totally took the peas.

From personal experience I can tell you that an Aprilia Falco with twin Renes starting up next to your tent in the early morning is THE LOUDEST THING ON EARTH!
