quite new to my DL650.
Going on a trip @ weekend and will be filling up the panniers and top box (but nothing overly heavy, just clothes etc).

The pre load factory setting is on 2 with 1 - 5 available, 1 being very soft to 5 being full hard.

Just wanted to get some idea from some of you more experienced - will I need to adjust?? (no pillion or anything).

At what point do you certainly need to adjust re weight (assume no pillion everytime).

Suspension is a bit of a black art so I tend not to mess but roughly speaking front sag should be around 30mm, rear sag 20 mm.

By that it means if you measure the distance (eg seat to centre of wheel for rear, handlebar to centre of wheel for front) with no load whatsoever (eg measure on centre stand) and with you sat on the bike feet up in normal riding position (you'll need a friend to hold the bike) the difference in the measurements should be around 30mm at the front 20mm at the rear.

Thats only scratching the surface though as suspension is a nit of a black art!

if its only clothes your carrying in your panniers, then i wouldnt bother adjusting the rear suspention mate. even if your on the larger side, stock settings should be ok for a single rider and kit

Don't do what I once did, set suspension to hardest settings too see what it was like and nearly broke my spine on the first bump I hit on the road Oo1.gif
