ok serious opinions please..
ive been having problems with the way the engine runs on my daytona 600 its been going on since i bought it.. taken it back to dealer a few times to be told " they all do that ".. basically it was running rough at low rpm.. there would be hesitation on throttle opening and you couldnt go along at a 30mph smoothly at say 4000rpm.. so i ended up investing in a power commander and paying a local company to set it up. after a couple of times trying they appear to have got it right but heres the problem...
i was at the NEC today and had a long chat with a guy from triumph. he seems to think i should'nt have to bolt on a power commander and it should run fine at low rpm and he seems to think the computer needs reseting so it can "re-learn the engine" and he has suggested another dealer i take it too to do this...
i also have had a problem with the silencer leaking out of some of the front rivets leaving black marks up the silencer and he said they can replace the silencer with a standard one or upgrade it free of charge to a stainless steel genuine triumph race can complete with new map....
i could have this done but it will prob bugger up all the setting up that i have had done with it on the power commander
so should i
a) just have the silencer replaced with another standard one and leave the power commander set up as it is....
or
b) Have a stainless steel can fitted ( and they will let me keep my old can) along with a new map and have them reset the computer and check it out. which will bugger up the map on the power commander and ill have to have that re done again..
yours confused!!
eb
engine maps will be put up later for your inspection
once i get them scanned in!

I'm not suprised you are confused. My mate Norrie got the mapping updated for his RS a while ago. Apparently Triumph release more patches than microsoft.
He hadn't had had the mapping updated since he bought it and it apparently made a hell of a difference is terms of power and acceleration. Get a new can anyway but there's pro and cons for changing the power commander. Although, if you could get the standard one running, ,you could flog the power commander on ebay.

do none of the above, buy a jap 4 or an italian v-twin.
(which is what you should've done in the 1st place & saved yourself all that hassle)

Seems to me (other than DP's suggestion) is to get them to reset the computer first to see if that cures it (you should just be able to disconnect the power commander while they do this). If it does then get the end can changed (they should sort the exhaust in any case) If not then its do you go for race can (and all the potential problems this can entail) or just put the power commander back on and ask them to pay for it to be dynoed again to set it up properly.

*UPDATE*
had a phonecall from the head of the warranty dep't at triumph today ..
he has organised throught another local dealer ( not where i bought the bike ) to fit the stainless steel can and allow me to keep the original one.
the engine map will be updated and he has instructed them to run thorugh all 40 diagnostic procedures on the bike to try and solve the problem and send the results back to triumph
they will change the front sproket for a 15 tooth one ( instead of 16 ) apparently they run better with a 15 tooth one..
they will sort out a recall issue with the rear brake
AND !
if i need to have the power copmmander set back up they will pay the cost
just shows of u complain to the right people.. and in front of loads of other potential buyers at the nec... things get done!

Now that's what I call service. Shame the original dealer couldn't be bothered to sort this for you.

One big lesson here is that there are dealers and there are dealers, reason I`ve advised my mate that he`d be better off paying extra for his new Hornet from a dealer I know, have used for years and trust than getting it delivered off the back of a pick-up truck from somewhere that may or may not give a toss about it`s customer aftercare
