My brake light is on permanently, like I'm pressing the brake but I'm not. When I hold the brakes down they do not light up, I think somethings stuck maybe?
What is causing the problem...?

at your foot brake, theres a set of springs...the thinest is connected to the brake light switch..pull on that and spray some wd 40 on and around the plunger...it get's clogged up with crap off the road, so this is probably the problem

Sep 17 2007, 08:45 PM
I don't have any WD 40 in the house, although I went outside and pulled and blew where you said and no luck. Will go and get some tomorrow and try it see if it works, if not - back to the shop it goes.

ive just realised that you've had the bars changed in the last couple of days... so they may have messed up the switch at the front brake lever.
sometimes the rear one is a bugger to free...so give it a good soaking with wd40

Surely not the shop that did your handlebars.......I'll come and spray some WD40 on it for you for £50 + vat....Hows that sound?

So they've changed your bars but fecked up the brake light switch by the sound of it, if it wasn't doing it before.
Trading standards at least

Check your Owner's Manual before taking it anywhere. This will usually explain how to adjust the switches to suit.
Any work you can do yourself is a bonus.
Plus it's good for you... very character building!!

Woody's right, Nash, this is usually the sort of thing you can easily do ourself, learn a bit about your bike
and save some cash into the bargain.

And remember - If you cannot fix it with cable-ties and gaffa tape - It's serious!!
Seriously, though - Learn everything in the manual. You may need to do it at the roadside one day, using just your factory-issue toolkit...
Give you an example - A few friends of mine went round Europe, one of them taking their son on his new XJR400. While out there, in the middle of a field with no nearby mechanics to phone up, they changed his chain & sprockets for him!!

Have a go, it is the only way to learn (after all you can read all the sex manuals you want, but nothing beats hands on experience).
But if it all goes wrong - drop the bike off here and I will spray it with WD40 for £40 + vat

I'll be meeting up with him on Saturday so I'll be sorting the light (unless the garage as screwed the front brake lever- in which case it'll be a replacment job under their time).
He'll be getting the "UWL Crash Course" in bike bodging!
